542 000 children have type 1 Diabetes, an insulin-dependent chronicle disease. Given their age, they have do depend on an adult to ensure the daily activities regarding the patology. We want to change this! With your help, we can do it!
We want to change the reality of children and young people who live with type 1 Diabetes.
We want to increase their independence concerning the management of the disease, we aim to promote a better control and adaptation to prevent complications. We also want to change the National Health System by promoting a regular vigilance by health professionals of the glycemia values. This way, a lot of check-up appointments made with the purpose to avaluate these values will decrease.
But most importantly, we need to give this children the empowerment they deserve and the ability of selfcare they have the right to.
The daily basis of a person with diabetes after they've been diagnosed changes a lot. It's necessary to constantly measure the glycemia values, to register them and to show it in an appointment; be careful with nourishment; know the exact carbohydrates of the food they eat; make the conversion to how many doses of insulin need to be administrated. Can a child do this on his own right away? No. He/she become independent from others and doesn't have the ability to adapt as well to control something that has to confront everyday.
What if it was a friend of yours, a brother, a cousin, a son, a nephew ou grandchild? Would you be able to see him/her living with limitations that actually have solution? What if it were you? How would you deal with everything?
HOW TO TURN THIS AROUND
GlicoDiary is a free app for smartphones. It will allow to register all the glycemia values measured during the day. This data will be automatically updated to the health professional in charge of his/her case. An abnormal value will alert the doctor and the kids' parents, with an option to call an ambulance if it is necessary.
It will also indicate the carbohydrates ingested; along with the glycemia value at that time and according to the insylin scheme made by the doctor, it will say how much insulin needs to be administrated.
YOU HAVE AN IMPORTANT PART IN THIS:
We have the health professionals and the commitment to do so. However, we need your help to make this possible and to hire a computer engineer and a designer!
