In Umbra, six explorers arrive from the distant lands of Ilyam and dominate the titans, establishing themselves as the Founders, the new Gods. After a reign of two millennia, filled with internal conflicts and ego struggles, popular revolts arise, led by the Witch Queen Maegana. Tired of such conflicts, the Founders go into exile and cut off magic from the world.

This power vacuum leads to ideological divisions between the Magicists, a cult that follows Maegana, believing in magic as a universal good, and the Foundationists, a conservative elite that aspires to return to the times of the Founders.

In the era of black silence, a child named Red grows up in  Evenling forest, with his daily life filled with color and imagination, provided by the tales of the ancient world that his mother, the hermit Velta, passes on to him.

But the shadows of the past are approaching and the idyllic life in the forest has its days numbered.

Fate will place the wizard's apprentice Martin and the fearless warrior Agatha in his path and together they will form a trio capable of awakening the legends of the lands of Ophiussa.

The version I present to you in book 1 is the result of several revisions and a profound rewriting of the historical and mythological past of the world of Umbra. It is a reimagining of Europe's distant past. It is important to note that Ophiussa, land of serpents, was the name given to the territory of Portugal by Ancient Greeks.

This book compiles chapters 1 to 5 (200 pages). The fifth chapter, as it is the conclusion of this story arc, will be exclusive to this printed edition and will be edited by creator Fábio Powers. It features a complete makeover with restored panels, new typography and unpublished art by national illustrators and Mangakas such as Kachisou, Patrícia Costa, Leandra Carmo (Lils) and Paula Nunes among others.

This adventure is just beginning and the world of Umbra awaits you!

About the author

Jules Spaniard Raimes (Júlio Espadanal Ramos) is a 3D/2D Animator, FX artist and Illustrator,

Fascinated by Japanese and Western comics (manga) and influenced by the humor and style of Akira Toriyama's Dragonball and the heroic poses of Frank Frazetta. Later, he was drawn to Kentaro Miura's Manga Berserk by his own style, which was full of details and which he would later absorb in some panels of Arcadian Devils, using the inking to make this world full of shadows and vibrant textures.

Graduated in Fine Arts, Painting in Caldas da Raínha and graduated in Multimedia Art from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, from an early age he participated in several video art performances, 3D animations, fanzines, festivals or collective exhibitions and one solo exhibition, “Percursos”, in his adopted hometown of Almeirim.

In 2008, he joined the Citi-Research Center for Interactive Technologies at Universidade Nova, a place that has made a name for itself through experimentation and diversity of projects. He has participated in animation and interactive projects, including the Caminho das Letras (Path of Letters) of the National Reading Plan of the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He has created graphic content for Sef TV, the Ministry of Health, video mapping for the Teatro D. Maria II and the illustration of several digital books. He has also illustrated books published for the Portuguese Insurance Association by Isabel Alçada and Ana Maria Magalhães and the book Europin, Europan and Europun by Carlos Correia.

From 2022 onwards he works at his Spaniard Animation Studios in Almeirim where, among other projects, he conceptualized with Get in Line agency the 3D animation series “As Aventuras do Alex” for Roche and produced part of the visual effects and the poster for the film "o Velho e a Espada" by Fábio Powers.

Periodically, he animated and published online  "Passadeira do Bicho",  "Paragem de Animais",  "Rina does Life" and the "Gangue das Velhas de Benfica" which capture and show the unusual national realities in an Portugal inhabited with animals.

But one project was missing: finally being able to complete Arcadian Devils, which had been marinating for two decades and finally got off the ground in the middle of a pandemic. Once it was finalized, it was time to show this world to the readers and make the author's most personal dream come true: publishing this book.

Budget and due dates

The money received from this campaign will cover the costs of printing the book and extras.

-Printing of 100 copies (200 pages), B5 format, soft cover- 800 eur.

-PPL Commissions-92.25 eur.

-Printing of goodies and expenses ctt 50.-95 eur (approx)

These values apply to all 100 copies of this edition, gifts and postage costs.

If the fundraising amount exceeds 1000 euros, more copies of both the book and the extras will be made to cover the new amount.

In the case of expeditions outside Portugal, the value will be added to the reward purchased.

Items will be shipped during the month following the end of the campaign.
