When power, communications, and access fail, some people are left alone. This campaign was created to ensure that no one is isolated, building a local network that delivers rapid assistance and strengthens the protection and resilience of the community.
Recent storms, particularly Storm Kristin, have revealed a harsh reality: there are populations in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova that can be isolated for hours and days without access to electricity, communications, or assistance.
In a territory with over 100 scattered localities, many in rural and hard-to-reach areas, this isolation is not just a difficulty; it can become a real risk.
This campaign was created to ensure that, even in these times, no one is left alone.
We want to create a municipal network of local support, based on people and communities, capable of quickly reaching those who need it most. A network built with volunteers, parish councils and local associations, prepared to act when all else fails.
What do we want to do?
- Create 15 teams of local volunteers (30 people) prepared to act in emergencies.
- Equip these teams with operational backpacks and first aid supplies.
- Provide 300 support kits distributed by local associations.
- To ensure communications with satellite phones and Starlink internet.
- Strengthen energy independence with portable mini-generators.
How does it work?
This network connects the municipality, the parish councils, and around 75 local associations, creating a fast, decentralized response that is close to the population.
Instead of relying solely on centralized resources, aid is now already on the ground, ready to be activated when it is most needed.
Why is it important?
- It guarantees a faster response when every minute counts.
- It provides support to those who are most isolated and vulnerable.
- It improves coordination and effectiveness in emergency situations.
- It values the role of the community in protecting people and the territory.
Expected impact?
- Faster response to isolated populations
- Strengthening municipal coordination capacity in emergencies.
- Strengthening community engagement and local response capacity through associative networks.
- Greater territorial coverage through local associations.
- Improving community resilience in the face of power and communication failures.
- Effective integration between the municipality, parish councils, associations, and local services.
