Rebuilding Caranguejeira Sports Club

Rebuilding the dining and bathroom areas used by our young athletes.

For years, the Caranguejeira Sports and Cultural Club has been a space for growth, unity, and development for hundreds of children, young people, and families in our community. It is here that many athletes train daily, forge friendships, and learn values that they will carry with them throughout their lives.

Recently, Storm Kristin caused significant damage to the club's facilities, affecting the roof of the dining area and the attached restrooms used by our athletes. These areas are essential for the daily operation of activities and to ensure dignified and safe conditions for everyone who lives and breathes the club.

Given the extent of the damage, the estimated cost of the renovation is around €50,000. As a local association, it is impossible to bear this amount without external assistance.

That's why we launched this fundraising campaign with a simple goal: to rebuild this space and give our children, young people, and families back the conditions they deserve.

About the author

The Caranguejeira Sports and Cultural Club is located in Caranguejeira, Leiria municipality, Campo da Mata, and has around 200 athletes . It is a multi-sport club, not just football.

It emerged in 2011 as an evolution/continuation of the former União Desportiva da Caranguejeira, which was founded in 1978. It participated in national competitions (3rd division) and had good moments in district competitions.

The CDC is focusing on several areas:

Football: Youth teams (various levels) and senior team in district competitions (Leiria Football Association); Futsal: Youth teams (various levels) and senior team in district competitions (Leiria Football Association); Tennis; Padel (with its own court).

One of the club's great strengths: 1 natural grass football pitch, 1 synthetic pitch, tennis and padel courts, and proximity to the municipal pavilion where we explore the sport of futsal.

The club's main objectives are youth development , keeping athletes local (preventing them from leaving for other clubs), providing academic support to athletes (tutoring room), sustainable growth, and expanding the range of sports offered.

Interventions considered

1. Complete roof rehabilitation (dining area)
2. Complete refurbishment of the attached restrooms.
3. Complementary works (infrastructure, electricity and finishing)

1. Roof – Dining Area. Works included:

• Complete replacement of the structure, including reinforcement.
• Application of new roofing (thermal sandwich panel)
• Thermal insulation and waterproofing
• Installation of gutters and drainage system.
• Scaffolding assembly and safety conditions

I estimated:

€20,000 – €28,000

Note: This price considers a durable solution, using higher quality materials and focusing on preventing future damage.

2. Restroom Annexes (Complete Refurbishment) Works included:

• Structural repair (walls, ceilings and leaks)
• Pipe replacement
• New electrical installation (lighting and ventilation)
• Complete replacement of sanitary ware.
• Application of new coverings (walls and floor)
• Painting and finishing

I estimated:

€10,000 – €15,000

Note: This intervention is considered a major renovation, with a significant improvement over existing conditions.

3. Additional Assignments Include:

• General electrical inspection of the affected area.
• Door and window repair
• Minor additional structural arrangements
• Additional workforce

4. Contingency Fund

Considering the nature of the works and the possibility of damage that may not be visible at the outset:
