In a territory increasingly exposed to extreme weather events, being prepared is not a choice — its a necessity!

Located in a territory increasingly exposed to extreme weather events, the Volunteer Firefighters of Tábua face growing and increasingly unpredictable challenges. Climate change has been exacerbating the frequency and intensity of these events, prolonging critical periods and significantly increasing the risk to people, property and the territory, requiring an increasingly prepared, rapid and effective response capacity from those who are on the front line every day.

In this context, rural fires continue to be particularly relevant in our region, occurring frequently and often with high intensity and complexity, requiring an increasingly rapid, effective and coordinated response.

In a constantly evolving scenario, also marked by technological advancement, operational requirements have become more complex and demanding. Responsiveness increasingly depends on adapting to new tools, continuous training, and the availability of modern and effective resources.

The natural wear and tear of equipment, the constant need for modernization, and limited financial resources constitute real obstacles that limit the readiness and effectiveness of the response, especially in highly demanding scenarios.

Beyond acquiring and renewing equipment, it is equally essential to improve the conditions of the fire station—the central space supporting operational activity, training, and the well-being of firefighters. Ensuring adequate infrastructure is also an investment in response capacity and the safety of those who serve.

It is within this context that this campaign emerges, with the objective of strengthening the resources and operational capacity of the Tábua Volunteer Firefighters, ensuring better conditions to face current and future challenges with greater safety and effectiveness.

In an increasingly demanding and unpredictable world, the ability to protect and rescue depends, more than ever, on preparedness. Being prepared is not a choice — it's a necessity.

About the author

Founded on August 28, 1935, the Tábua Volunteer Firefighters Humanitarian Association has been, for nine decades, an essential pillar in the protection and rescue of the population, establishing itself as a reference in the civil protection system at the local and national levels.

With a history marked by dedication, courage, and a sense of mission, its firefighters are called upon daily to intervene in fires, medical emergencies, accidents, and other risky situations, ensuring the safety of people and property.

With an active force currently composed of 75 firefighters, these are men and women who, every day, balance their personal and professional lives with the commitment to serve, responding promptly to the call of those in need.

A mission undertaken with dedication, every day, in service to the community.

Budget and due dates

Goal 01 – Communicate to Save

Portable Communications Case

Price: €8,480

Deadline: June 2026

The first step to an effective response begins with communication. Acquiring a portable communications kit will ensure effective and continuous connection and coordination—even in the most demanding scenarios. This tool will support field operations and strengthen response capabilities in critical situations. Fast and reliable communication can make all the difference in managing operations and ensuring the safety of teams in the field.

Without effective communication, there is no coordinated response.

Goal 2 – Protect Those Who Protect

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Value: €40,923.41 (accumulated - €49,403.41)

Deadline: July 2026

The safety of our firefighters is an absolute priority. Acquiring boots, gloves, helmets, and urban suits is fundamental to ensuring the protection of firefighters in every intervention. This equipment reduces risks, increases safety, and allows for more effective action in demanding scenarios.

Investing in protection saves lives — including the lives of those who provide assistance.

Goal 3 – Strengthen Capacity on the Ground

Operational equipment

Value: €9,614.06 (accumulated - €59,017.47)

Deadline: July 2026

Reinforcing our Urban Firefighting Vehicle with lighting equipment, a disc pump, and a fan will significantly improve intervention conditions, especially in nighttime scenarios, confined spaces, or complex operations. These are essential tools to increase effectiveness and safety in the field.

Better tools mean faster, safer, and more effective interventions.

Goal 04 – Total Response on the Ground

ATV with forestry and rescue kit

Value: €36,665.29 (accumulated – €95,682.76)

Deadline: August 2026

The acquisition of this vehicle represents a decisive leap in operational capacity, allowing for rapid intervention in difficult-to-access terrain. It is a versatile asset that enables a quick response to rural fires, reconnaissance operations, and victim support – situations where every second counts and where conventional vehicles cannot reach.

Reaching places others don't can make all the difference.

Goal 05 – Autonomy in Operations

ARICAS trailer

Value: €53,348.79 (accumulated - €149,031.60)

Deadline: September 2026

This equipment is essential for filling breathable air cylinders, which are fundamental in various operations. Its mobility, through towing, will allow for direct support in the field, increasing autonomy and speed of response.

More autonomy on the ground means more lives protected.

Goal 06 – Dignity and Conditions in the Barracks

Lockers for men's changing rooms

Value: €15,271.99 (accumulated – €164,303.50)

Deadline: July 2026

The fire station is the starting point for all missions. Improving the conditions of the fire station also involves the organization and dignity of the spaces. The acquisition of lockers will improve the organization, hygiene, and well-being of the firefighters, directly contributing to their motivation and operational readiness.

Caring for those who serve strengthens the entire mission.

Meta 07 – Communications Center of the Future

Technological equipment and expansion of the power plant.

Value: €132,900.60 (accumulated - €297,204.20)

Deadline: September 2026

For everything to function properly on the ground, it is essential to ensure good conditions and effective communication. Expanding our control center and reinforcing it with modern technological equipment will improve working conditions and increase response capacity. Adequate space and equipment are fundamental for efficient coordination in emergency situations.

An effective response begins in a well-prepared communications center.

Each goal achieved represents a real advance in the response capacity of the Volunteer Firefighters of Tábua.
