Margarida, this is one of the faces of human indifference. Margarida, Nori, Dom Juan, Faneca, Kit Kat 5, who were hospitalized this month alone. We are unable to pay the veterinary expenses.

The worst nightmare for an association is having to rush to a veterinarian and not having any money or available credit. This month we've already had 5 very expensive hospitalizations. Margarida was the last to arrive; she was wandering the streets with her ears in a terrible state until someone asked us for help. We didn't think twice; she went straight to the vet and remains hospitalized to stabilize her condition and undergo surgery on both ears and her mouth.

Nori has already been hospitalized three times; the last time she was there for two weeks. It was finally discovered that she has an autoimmune disease and will likely have to take medication for the rest of her life.

Dom Juan, a colony cat who fell ill, was found to have FIP. Near the end of his treatment, he caught a cold and had to be hospitalized for recovery. He is now recovering again and will finish his treatment soon.

Faneca, a kitten that had been hit by a car, was dragging himself along on his hind legs; it was feared he would become paralyzed, but we managed to give Faneca a new life.

Finally, the Kit Kat that we couldn't save, and we still mourn it today. These are just 5 examples of the many we have. The hands that comfort them need your support to continue this fight; without your help, we cannot save them.

About the author

The association was born from a dream. Sónia is an animal lover and her main focus is on cats. Little by little, she created conditions to improve the lives of stray cats.

She started by building shelters, and at home she took in the sweetest cats to find responsible homes. However, as more and more sweet cats needed rehabilitation, she decided to rent a space to have better conditions for them, since she could no longer do it all from home. In the midst of the pandemic, Sónia rented a space. It was a very big risk, but her dream of helping unwanted cats was even greater.

Sónia's dream came true 6 years ago with the help of several friends.
The Sintra Cat Village Association was established a few months after Sónia rented the first space. Over the years, many people have joined this project, and some of them are Sónia's right-hand people. The Association has had its ups and downs; we have days when we cry a lot, but we also have days when we smile a lot.

We deal with financial difficulties daily, because with over 130 cats, the expenses are not easy to bear, considering that we only survive on donations.

This month we had many hospitalizations and the veterinary debt is already over €4000.

Budget and due dates

The money raised will be used to pay off the veterinary clinic bill.
