The "Universo da Brincadeira" Children's Center is where the children of Alcácer grow and learn; the waters of the Sado River cannot extinguish that future.
The Alcácer do Sal Children's Center — Universo da Brincadeira (managed by the Associação para o Desenvolvimento do Torrão ) was one of the buildings severely damaged, becoming partially submerged. This tragedy led to the temporary closure of the facility, leaving 100 children (from nursery and preschool) and their families without this important support.
We managed to reopen with "superhuman strength," but only provisionally, as we still need to replace much of the equipment and furniture that was completely lost. We are operating at a minimum level.
Fortunately, we have had a lot of support (volunteers who helped us with cleaning, our internal staff, the City Council which also helped us with cleaning), which encourages us to continue. However, this support is still not enough to restore the normal operation of the facility.
This campaign aims to raise funds so that we can purchase missing furniture and equipment (dishwasher, washing machine, stove, air conditioning units, and repair costs) that, unfortunately, our insurance coverage does not cover.
