This is a book about freedom — that of today, that of the past, that which exists, and that which is needed — developed by more than 300 people, for all ages and contexts.
Truz Truz Editora is publishing a commemorative and collaborative book celebrating the 50th anniversary of April 25th. It is a book for all ages, consisting of 50 stories about freedom written in different literary genres such as poetry, prose, theater, and essays. Each story was designed by one of the 50 invited authors, together with a group of users from one of the 28 Associations of the Porto area participating in the project, and is being illustrated by one of the 50 illustrators who were also invited.
50 ABRIS PROJECT:
In 2023, Truz Truz Editora wanted to know how freedom is perceived in Portugal through the voices of little-heard people who live in the country now, almost 50 years after April 25th, 1974.
To this end, we invited 28 Social Associations from the Porto area that work with people of different ages and nationalities — from children to the elderly, Portuguese, immigrants, and refugees — as well as various issues and causes — homelessness, prostitution, physical and cognitive disabilities, LGBTQIA+ cause, education and social development of marginalized groups, among others. From these Associations, 50 small groups were formed, which we grouped with 50 invited authors, all resident in Portugal, thus operationalizing 50 literary meetings between September 2023 and January 2024.
Each literary meeting, composed of an author and a small group from an Association, was a dialogue about freedom: that of today, that of the past, that which exists, and that which is needed. The main objective of each meeting was to create a stage so that many anonymous and often forgotten voices could express themselves and actively work on the cultural production of this book that we dream of. Each literary meeting resulted in a text written by the guest author, resulting from the conversation in which they participated and, therefore, signed in the plural — with the names of the group members, the co-authors.
Finally, we invited 50 illustrators to give color and shape to the 50 stories that will make up the book.
In addition to the invaluable kindness of the artists involved, Truz Truz Editora had the support of partners who made the literary meetings possible through the travel and accommodation of authors to the city of Porto. With this part of the project over, we now need your help to produce and edit the book 50 Abris. Creating a work that includes 50 texts and 50 illustrations requires considerable costs that selling the books alone does not cover.
Furthermore, in the unlikely event that the 50 Abris book project makes a profit, it will be distributed equally among the associations that are part of it, and that made it possible.
In this image, you can see all the artists who are part of the book and who will receive it free of charge, as well as the Associations and partners that form the project.
BOOK 50 ABRIS:
The book is made up of 50 stories written during the 50 literary meetings, each of them interpreted and illustrated by a guest artist.
It also has a preface written by Brazilian author José Paulo Cavalcanti and illustrated by Minho artist Eva Evita, and also with audio surprises in the voices of actress Patrícia Andrade and other members of the 50 Abris project such as Ana Brandão, Francisco Almeida, and Teresa Machado, plus a few musical gifts that we are not yet going to disclose...
It will have a vertical dimension, approximately 335x240mm, in hardcover. For supporters of the last two levels of this PPL, the book will be embraced by a second cover that is simultaneously a poster, which will contain your name and your face illustrated like that of the artists who are part of the project because, deep down, without you, 50 Abris wouldn’t be possible!
At any PPL level, you receive a good reward!
Thank you to those who are thinking with Truz Truz about a tomorrow of words and belongings — we live in a utopia here. Will you join us? Be part of this mission and support this cause with your donation towards the production of this innovative book built as a collective. Thanks!
