KAISEMP will boost the economy of the communities of Lobata and Lembá in Sao Tome & Principe. Through technical and behavioral training, we will support and prepare the population for the reception of tourists in their own homes and community.

KAISEMP is a project powered by Spirit'16, a WACT program - NGO focused on the development and implementation of social projects in Sao Tome.

KAISEMP’s team believes that the increase of the tourism sector can mobilize the development of other factors that in turn will stimulate the local economy. Taking into account the project's operating time (3 months), we believe that the most effective way to sustainably solve this problem is by developing skills that will help the population to receive tourists in their communities. We intend to do it through training that include: Financial Literacy, Conflict management, Hygiene and security and Cultural and communicational differences.

After the DIAGNOSIS, AWARENESS AND TRAINING, we plan to leave in the hands of each participating trained by KAISEMP, the hypothesis to enhance existing tourism resources focusing on accommodation and inclusion of tourists in the communities.

Powered by the program Spirit’16 of WACT - We Are Changing Together – the project KAISEMP will be implemented in Sao Tome and Principe from 2 July to 28 September by the volunteers:

Ana Lopes; 24 years old; Master's degree in Social and Organizational Psychology; HR consultant.

Catarina Pinhal; 20 years old; student of Industrial Engineering and Management.

Filipa Fonseca; 27 years old; graduated in Economics.

We are a highly passionate team that loves to travel bag-to-back and join new adventures, knowing the local people and different cultures along the way, more than only capturing the landscapes of the places. On the other hand, at the same time, we believe in the power of social projects that aim to sustainable develop the communities.

Therefore, we believe in KAISEMP, since we will try to take advantage of the tourism potential already existent in Sao Tome and receptivity trait typical of their communities. With the increasing number of Backpackers that intend to "live the places” through genuine interaction with the locals, we believe in a win-win solution of a social problem.

In short: We believe that KAISEMP will prepare STP to take the reins of their own development, investing in the tourism sector and by offering innovative and simplified tourist solutions, able to boost the local economy in the long run, even without our presence on the ground.
