SYNOPSIS

CONCEPT
“The Burning Giraffe” seeks to expose and raise awareness of issues that, despite being part of our current and everyday life, are still undervalued and relativized, such as mental health, work pressure, burn out and professional exhaustion.
The complexity of human relationships and the perception of reality create points of tension, in a story that challenges conscious thought and brings it to reflection.
Director's Intentions
Covered precarious situations are just as dangerous in society as visible precariousness. Pressure for results often wears a mask of professional integrity and success that is only exposed when all boundaries have been crossed.
It is essential to understand that exaggerated and threatening pressure, in addition to not having the desired effect, ends up leading to the opposite extreme, an effort so intense that it results in a decrease in the worker's performance, or the total absence of it, in extreme situations. “The Burning Giraffe” alerts to the importance of maintaining mental health, to the consequences and needs: bringing more humanity to the employer. The understanding and support of close people, work colleagues, family, friends, also assumes a key role in a moment of awareness of reality.
It takes its name from the homonymous work by Salvador Dali, “The Burning Giraffe”, where two female figures sleepwalk. With drawers in their bodies and crutches that come out of it, they wander in a setting where a giraffe burns in the background. The drawers suggest that what is hidden in the human mind can be made accessible and visible, and the crutches that support the figures, that only with this resource can they remain upright. This allegorical representation speaks of the unconscious and inaccessible regions of being, which cannot be controlled by reason but which dictate our lives. The burning giraffe in the background is a symbol of the absurdity of human existence.
