We intend to raise money to produce a documentary short film “Sunflower”, which talks about love, pain, struggle and achievement told in the first person by a breast cancer survivor and her daughter.
Synopsis
This is an history of love, pain and conquer told in the first person by one breast cancer surviver, Augusta, and her daughter Isa.
Over 20 minutes, the veil that hide the oncological disease is uncovered and is given vivid testimony to moments of anguish, fear, guilt, but also how to overcome these moments and turn things around.
This Documentary is about renaissance, change, family relationships and godsend. Is also one warning scream, one attempt to sensitize mentalities and a tribute to all the women and families who did or still do this violent and troubled journey. It is, first and foremost, a tribute to Augusta Cancela, my mother.
Why address this issue?
This theme of oncological disease is presente in our lives in many ways. But what is usually transmitted to us is the battles waged against the disease. We intend to go further and also talk bout what happens after the person has overcome the treatments, as we consider that this phase of the process is somewhat overlooked.
After overcoming, the “ghost” of the disease does not disappear and there are several physical and psychological consequences that are present in the sick. At the same time that a person has to continue to adapt and accept their new condition, there is another battle with the system.
In this way, we intend to alert and sensitize people to this reality.
About the author
Isa Cancela | Director
- Studied Multimedia in Escola Artística e Profissional da Árvore.
- Attends the last year of the Degree in Tecnologias da Comunicação Audiovisual in ESMAD (Escola Superior Media Artes e Design)
- Just took the class "Death and Documentary", a partnership between ESMAD and UT Austin.
- She is also interested in work as a Director of Photography.
- Her goal is to create an reaction and a reflection in the society about different themes, through her work and thats why her interest in world of the documentary.
Ana Monteiro | Production Director | Assistent Director
- Studied Ciências e Tecnologias in high school.
- Attends the last year of the Degree in Tecnologias da Comunicação Audiovisual in ESMAD (Escola Superior Media Artes e Design).
- Throughout the degree she participated in several projects having performed several functions.
- Her interests go beyond cinema, having a particular interest in photography.
Nara Moreira | Annotator/Editor/Art Director
- In high school study one technical course of Audiovisuais in Vocational education.
- Attends the last year of the Degree in Tecnologias da Comunicação Audiovisual in ESMAD (Escola Superior Media Artes e Design).
- Her interest in the area arises very early, when she developed a stop motion film in the early years of school.
- Throughout the degree she developed several projects, where she held different positions.
Catarina Ribeiro | Director of Photography
- In the high school studied Comunicação Audiovisual in Escola Artística Soares dos Reis.
- Did an internship in media capital in TVI.
- Completed a Degree in Tecnologia da Comunicação Audiovisual in ESMAD, last year.
- She worked on several audiovisual and cinematographic projects as a director of photography and other functions in the image department, including recently in a feature film.
- She had her most recent short film awarded in Prémios Sophia Estudante.
Manuel Monteiro | Sound Director
- In the high school studied Teatro/Interpretação - Artes do Espetáculo in Balleteatro Profissional, Porto.
- Completed a Degree in Tecnologia da Comunicação Audiovisual in ESMAD.
- He was Sound Director of the short film 8bits by Henrique Silva in his final Degree project.
- He edited the sound of the short documentary film "A vida dura muito pouco" by Dinis Leal Machado.
