About the author

WHAT IS A CIVIC LABORATORY?

Citizen laboratories have emerged in several European cities in response to the need to deepen participatory democracy and to involve local communities in building experimental solutions to some of their everyday problems.

These laboratories aim to prototype solutions to urban problems through mediator-oriented experimentation, within a framework of involving local citizens and actors, for later replication as a result of learning. It is not, however, a platform for the production of 'quick fixes' or an urgent response to acute problems.

WHY A CIVIC LABORATORY IN AVEIRO?

A group of professionals from various areas (urbanism, architecture, design, technology, teaching and research ...) have joined the MISSION to promote collaborative ways of training and solving community problems in a climate of permanent learning.
