"Boys who cry" is a psychological drama about toxic masculinity and how it affects male members, both in terms of mentality and their interpersonal relationships.
We decided to address the topic of toxic masculinity and its effects on men, including repression and the inability to process feelings in a healthy way, giving rise to a silent inner struggle and suffering.
"When I was developing the idea, I thought several times about how I, as a woman, see myself affected by toxic masculinity. With this, I lost track of how many men suffer, if not more, in my personal vision, with this social concept. . And because they don’t feel heard, or safe enough to make themselves heard, they don’t speak. " - Director, Francisca Ferreira.
In fact, one of the subliminal messages that we want to expose with the film is to highlight the importance of communication, intimacy and vulnerability for those we love, especially among men.
It is a very strong topic and, unfortunately, little addressed, despite its relevance today. Hence we know that, in order to reach its high potential, this short academic needs your help. Help us to change perceptions and fight for both men and women who will see each other in this feminist, intimate and universal work. We also hope that by bringing this perspective to the table, gender inequality can be approached in a more tolerant and receptive way.
