From 8 to 18 March, Vento do Norte and Henk van Twillert will be visiting and playing concerts in some of the most prestigious n Northern America universities, schools and in Portuguese and Dutch Institutions.
Vento do Norte: American Tour " Once upon a time in... America"
Henk van Twillert and Vento do Norte , the ESMAE Sax Ensemble, is happy to announce its exciting American tour, Once upon a time in... America", which features concerts in some of the most prestigious universities, schools, community centers, Portuguese and Dutch Institutions in North America. This ensemble consists of young talented musicians currently studying at the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto led by Henk van Twillert.
From 8 to 18 March 2016, Vento do Norte and Henk van Twillert will visit and play amoung other's at the NYU University in New York, at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania and at New England Conservatory in Boston.
They also will be performing at South River Portuguese Club, Sport Club Português ans at the Netherlands Club NYC.
It will be a great pleasure to present the music and musicians of Portugal in the multi-cultural diversity of the American territory, and also, learn, and promote links between the American and European continents on the Performing Arts domain.
The program will feature a quite diverse and challenging music, including two unique arrangements especially done for this ensemble: the 2nd Brandenburg Concert by Johann Sebastian Bach, and one of the most beautiful works by Franz Schubert, The Death and The Maiden, and also, amoung other's tango 's and fado's.

Henk van Twillert is saxophone professor at ESMAE, School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto, where he formed the Portuguese Saxophone Orchestra and the saxophone ensemble, Vento do Norte.
The saxophonist Henk van Twillert was co-founder of the famous "ASQ - Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet and throughout his career has performed and recorded with various artists, including Carlos do Carmo, Inessa Galante, Jaap van Zweden, Wayenberg Daniel and Han Bennink. It also recorded solo the famous "Cello Suites" by Johann Sebastian Bach on baritone saxophone.
Between 2009 and 2011, Henk van Twillert lived in New York where he worked on his Ph.D. "The Cello Suites of Johann Sebastian Bach in Saxophone - Interpretation and transcription," having obtained the PhD degree in June 2013.
And it was during this period that the dream of being able to show in the US appeared the work of his students ESMAE and also provide their students contact with several American institutions teaching combining concerts with workshops and masterclasses. "
Vento do Norte
It is a unique group of young musicians saxophonists students of Henk van Twillert at ESMAE - School of Music, Arts and Performing Arts, in Porto. The group was formed in 2005 by Henk van Twillert with students from his saxophone class. Students who complete their degree give their place to younger students, maintaining the youthfulness and energy of the group.
Since 2005 they performed in manny venues and festivals in Portugal and abroad, including Amsterdam, Venezuela, Brussels. They also participated in the "grachten Festival", the largest classical music festival in the Netherlands, held in the Amsterdam canals in August 2013 and made tours in Holland and Belgium in April 2014 and March 2015.
In 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015 they won the first prize in the prestigious "Concorso Internazionale di Musica camera of" Città di Chieri "in Italy. In 2009 they recorded their first CD "Adagio for Saxophones".

Budget and due dates
The total amount planned for the tour is 13,000 euros, including flights travel, accommodation, travel and food in the American continent. Of the total are guaranteed 10,500 euros. Is missing 2500 euros for this tour take place with the only concern of show the musical quality of these young people and learn from all the people and events in the difference institutions and places that they will go.
Once travel, stay a large part of journeys are already secured and the tour will happen anyway, the deadline for this project will be the end of the Tour at March 18, 2016 plus 4 days to close all the bills, so on 24 march 2016.
