"Voyage to the Sonorous Land or the Art of Asking"

The theatre company Público Reservado intends to raise this money to help in the construction and production expenses of the performance "Voyage to the Sonorous Land or the Art of Asking", by Peter Handke.

Voyage to the Sonorous Land or the Art of Asking, by Peter Handke, is a text that intends to interrogate language (to nominate the world through language, and to doubt language throught the world). Following the ideology of other authors that we've already aproached, like Valére Novarina, we are interested in a stage that opens itself to philosophy.

Through eight figures/archetypes, in a journey that lasts almost three hours, we try to answer the central question of this text: Where did the questions go?

This is the fourth creation of our company, this time in a coproduction with Porto's Municipal Theatre - Rivoli. It has presentations on April 15th and 16th, at 21:30 and 19:30, in Grande Auditório Manoel de Oliveira.

About the author

Público Reservado (translates to: Reserved Audience) is born as an informal cultural association in 2012 (official in 2013). It intends to be a theatrical company who work both the components of theory and practice (edition of books, workshops, seminars), aiming to give continuity to the aesthetical ideology of Renata Portas.

Since 2012 the company has presented the following plays:

• te deum – prayer to an unknow god, an assemblage of text that aimed to reflect about the trim of the greeks, death and perpetuity. Video: https://vimeo.com/67347605
• La Scéne, by Valére Novarina, a co-production with São João National Theatre. Video: https://vimeo.com/91727651 / https://vimeo.com/91310715
• Tacitus Ruins, a set of three distinct chapters that intends to study the roman empire as a definitive territory of contemporaneity (the love for barbarism).

The company edited the book of Tacitus Ruins and is in the process of editing, in partnership with São João National Theatre, La Scéne, by Valére Novarina.

Budget and due dates

The rehearsal phase of this project will start in March. Costume and scenario conception is already in progress, and its construction will start as soon as we raise the necessary funds.
The debut of the performance will happen on April 15th, at 21:30, and it will have a second presentation on April 16th, at 19:30, in Grande Auditório Manoel de Oliveira.

The fundamental needs that we wish to fulfill with this fundraising are:

700 € - Editing and printing of Director's Books, which we believe are fundamental objects for the preservation of an ephemeral art object such as this. These books contain several images, photographs, texts and essays which refer to the creation and rehearsal process for this performance.
800 € - Material for scenario and costume construction.
800 € - Hiring a photographer and a videographer to register the performance (and to edit these materials). This also helps us to build a database for disclosing the company's activity.
200 € - Help in Copyright expenses.
