Kova M Festival

Kova M Festival is a cultural initiative that promotes dynamics of social and community development within Alto Cova da Moura community and surroundings, thus fighting the stigma that is ravaging the neighborhood. It also develops and promotes the neighborhood’s cultural and human heritage, as well as its rich ethnic mix, hence contributing to the integration into the community where it belongs

Culture has always been a factor of social and economic development, as well as of integration and identity affirmation - a bridge that connects different generations and different backgrounds.

Kova M Festival is a cultural initiative that promotes dynamics of social and community development within Alto Cova da Moura community and surroundings, thus fighting the stigma that is ravaging the neighborhood. It also develops and promotes the neighborhood’s cultural and human heritage, as well as its rich ethnic mix, hence contributing to the integration into the community where it belongs

Through its three previous editions (2012, 2013 and 2014), the Festival won a particular space in Amadora city’s  cultural calendar.  4187 Facebook friends currently follow it; and about 8000 people were directly or indirectly mobilized for its latest editions. 

The festival will take place between July 21st and 25^th (Tuesday-Saturday) and will include the following activities:

• Book fair & literature workshop

• Kizomba Workshop

• Kola San Jon Workshop

• Open space film screening

• Batuque Finka Pé Workshop

• Photography exhibit

• Theater of the Oppressed (DRK)

• Tournaments (soccer, basketball)

• Judo performance

• Debate: Racism / "police violence"

• Open sessions on entrepreneurship

• Gastronomic fair

• Children’s Space

• Graffiti Workshop

• Flash mob

• Jam sessions

• Live music concerts

• Traditional African dances, breakdance, and kuduro presentations

As with previous editions, this fourth edition aims to encourage in the neighborhood's and nearby locations’ inhabitants an assertive attitudinal change through music, dance, performing arts, thematic debates and sports, as a way to build the youth of tomorrow, enabling them to meet the challenges of today.

The Cultural Association Moinho da Juventude develops educational, social, socio-professional, cultural and sports activities in the High Cova da Moura in Buraca, Amadora municipality,. We invest in the creation of local services for neighborhood residents, which include:

· Nursery, Kindergarden, Family Day Care, Leisure Time Activity Center - CATL to accompany 424 children in their growth, LEAP, a draft Parental Training where 4 neighborhood mothers accompany doorstep 84 families;

· Dance groups, music and sports (teams of children and youth basketball, athletics, futsal);

· Professional Insertion and Training Office, Office of Employment and Entrepreneurship Support, Documentation Support Office, Social Support Office, Intergenerational space - Participatory Citizenship;

· Computer Pole that offers training to childhood centers, youth and adults as well as the association of employees;

Cultural groups, Batuque Finka Foot, Kola San Jon (Classified as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Portugal), the Hip-hop dance group "Wonderfull's Kova M" and studio for music production (Kova M Studio "Heaven and the limit ").

Our Association is well-known to the Portuguese public. Our leaderwas awarded the prize for the most active woman of Portugal in 2005 (http://activa.sapo.pt/vida/Premio_Activa/2010-02-12-godelieve- meersschaert2). The value of this award was used to build a library and training center

She also received the 2007 Award for Human Rights (http: //expresso.sapo.pt/ar-premio-direitos-humanos-para-associacao-da-co...).these two important factors which will make us apply to the disclosure of our proposal for Crowfunding and thus reach our audience that ranges from Portugal, through the countries of Lusophone Africa to Germany and Belgium, as well as many former residents of the Cova da Moura emigrants which are now Europe outside this and having the monitored through the Internet.
