"Insonia" is a Fiction Short-film, Sound and Image Master Degree's Final Production of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Oporto, Portugal) held by Bernardo Lima.
A man with a sleep disorder drives his car thought the night. After crossing paths with a woman in danger, he's dragged into a dangerous underworld.
We are students of Catholic University of Portugal and this short film is our final project before concluding our master’s degree in film-making.
Insonia is about a lonesome and isolated man who suffers from a sleeping disorder. Instead of staying at home brooding, he copes with his situation by driving aimlessly trough the night.
We want to create a film that causes a visceral reaction in the spectator while at the same time being entertaining. We feel that’s the best type of experience, one that changes you, that penetrates your subjectivity.
Our film can be described as a thriller with some neo-noir elements and an arthouse aesthetic. Drive, Only God Forgives and Under the Skin count as some of our inspirations. We want the film to be minimalist in it´s approach and we intend on letting the images speak for themselves.
Insonia features Nuno Pardal, Mafalda Lencastre and Diogo Lima.
