Fundraising for the performance’s creation, around the upcoming refugee’s problematic, the hosting in the European Union and the Human Rights themes, that this phenomenon currently involves. The starting point for its creation is the idea that we are all refugees, displaced from our home cultural and physical territories. In this measure, citizens with equal rights and duties. With common memories, will, needs and wishes, having born in the north or south, in one or another place of the world. The refugee condition results of wars about the wealth and natural resources appropriation, by the most powerful, not from the will and action of citizens, the find themselves in the situation of refugee or displaced.
The performative project appears in the line of the initiative Eu Também Sou Refugiado (I’m also a refugee) with whom Teatro do Elefante is solitary, through this act. It has assumed it’s condition of artistic project and the questioning function of art, associating with the referred initiative and others with the same goals.
It will be presented in several spaces and regions of the country, and internationally, searching to alert, raise awareness and clarify the issues that are at it’s origin. Through debates and or public events of various formats, as well as eventual publications.
About the author
Teatro do Elefante (TdoE) is a cultural cooperative based in Setúbal, Portugal, and founded in the year 1997, which develops activities in the artistic and cultural field, namely through the creation and production of theater shows and other cultural events. TdoE has partnerships with institutions and entities from the region, national and international, from which stand out ATINJ-Associação Portuguesa de Teatro para a Infância e Juventude (Theater for Children and Youth Portuguese Association) and Anna Lindh Foundation. The structure has a special attention to the connection between the collective of artists and the community, as well as the promotion of Portuguese contemporary literal works, or international literature.
In the field of theater animation TdoE develops projects with disadvantaged communities, from the 2 de Abril and Bela Vista housing states, in articulation with the Parish Council of S. Sebastião, as well as in the Historical Center, with municipalities and entities from the region of Setúbal. The collaboration extends still in other institutional levels, namely with the sponsorship of the basic school in Ponte Seca, in the parish of Sado, integrated into the Group of Schools Order of Santiago.
