This trip will be from the 16th to the 18th of June and the main purpose is to demonstrate the culture of our municipality, always with the concern that the quality of the work we present will be a source of pride for the local community.
About the author
The Coral Divo Canto is an amateur SATB choir, consisting of about 40 elements, without any age limit that is part of the Cultural Association of the same name.
Its activity began on April 2, 2003, when a group of curious people gathered to begin rehearsing choral music, a musical strand at the time unknown to the vast majority of the people of the county. On April 24, 2004, the so-called Coral Poliphonico da Casa do Povo de Penacova presented itself for the first time in concert, consisting of about 35 elements, some of which remain until the present time. His first maestro was Nuno António Campos.
Since then the group has been growing and has a very eclectic repertoire, which includes classical, contemporary, traditional Portuguese music, sacred and profane compositions.
It was the year of 2012 when it had its first international experience, having gone to Ponteareas at the invitation of the local choir. Since then it regularly participates in concerts in the neighboring country.
In May 2013 it participated in the 1ª Gala dos Bombeiros of the district of Coimbra at Figueira da Foz's Casino, and went to the same place in October of the same year to record a live DVD, at the invitation of the Coro David de Sousa.
It has toured Portugal from North to South, namely with performances in Faro, Tavira, Lisbon, Peniche, Leiria, Guimarães, Valença do Minho, Izeda, among many others.
In 2014 it presented the opera "Orfeo ed Euridice" by C. W. Gluck.
In 2015, in order to continue its progression, it became a Cultural Association.
It was invited to animate the celebration at the 1ª Missa de Benção dos Capacetes dos Bombeiros Voluntários of the Coimbra District, which took place on June 18, 2016 at the Sé Nova in Coimbra, where more than 300 firefighters from all over the district gathered.
Already in 2017 it organized the 1º Encontro Solidário de Penacova (1st Solidarity Concert of Penacova), in which the great majority of the parochial choral groups of the county participated, and the 1º Festival da Canção Divo Canto de Penacova (1st Divo Canto Song Festival).
The Coral Divo Canto has done an important work to raise awareness of the people of the municipality of Penacova for choral music, often performing concerts in different parishes of this county.
As cultural promoter of the county, it organizes annually the Concert of its Anniversary, the Encontro de Coros de Penacova (Choirs Encounter) and a Christmas Concert for which he invites national and foreign choirs.
Coral Divo Canto has already had the opportunity to work with various artistic directorates, namely Maestro Gonçalo Rocha and Prof. Celestino Maria Ortet.
It is directed since 2009 by Maestro Pedro André Rodrigues.
