The second year of the "Cool Tour Festival" aims towards creating a pool of cultural thematic events for children, families and school communities through:
- strengthening the contact between schools and families in order to facilitate access to Culture and develop equal opportunities in education, through artistic activities outside of the normal school timetable;
- creating the opportunity for discussion and process of reflection about pertinent matters in children's lives, covering, their own and others' identity, the power of image and publicity, human diversity, family context and existing prejudices;
- educating through theater, forum theater, films and a guided tour through a maze - activities which provoke children's critical thinking and lead them towards embracing tolerance, consciousness, responsibility and freedom of choice.;
- inspiring and motivating towards creating debate and further activities within schools and family homes;
- contributing towards the cultural life in the city of Faro, making local cultural projects more visible;
The activities this year include:
- a themed Maze at the Amarelarte Association (a kind of guided tour);
- A children's play (forum theater) in the form of a huge TV: TV frentex porque as crianças merecem;
- Two plays created by children;
- and a film made by children.
This year, through our themed maze children will be encouraged to experiment, act, dance and play while discovering different characters throughout the course of the maze. We will have, for example, the Girl with Candy Floss Hair whose problem reflects bullying. Children will be asked to interact with the many characters they come across, solve problems and generate debate. Our key methodology is based on forum-theater, promoting participation from the spectators, who will contribute for the final result.
The theme of this year's festival: our own and others' identity, the power of image and publicity, family context, friendship and bullying, human diversity and existing prejudice.
The Festival brings together art and educational professionals, volunteers, children from different ethnic groups (mainly the gypsie community with who we have been working with in the past); schools and local comunities; and will take place from the 20th to the 25th of October 2014.
If you would like to know more about our Festival do not hesitate to get in touch with us, we will be more than happy to walk you through it.
