It's with great honour and pride that Orfeão Universitário do Porto (OUP) keeps being a defender and spreader of the traditional portuguese culture.
This time, we've decided to inovate and we're organizing a Congress about the traditions from Miranda do Douro, a northern portuguese region, which will have a theoretical and pratical part.
Congresso das Tradições Mirandesas will take place on April 25th, on Oporto University's Rectory Auditorium. It will be a free entrance event, because the goal is to spread this type of portuguese culture without any obstacle.
The following groups will be present on Congresso das Tradições Mirandesas: Pauliteiros de Miranda do OUP, Pauliteiras de Miranda do OUP, Pauliteiros de Sendim, Pauliteiras de Miranda, Gaiteiros de Lombada
This event will be divided on six theoretical parts, where several speakers, specialists on each one of the areas, will speak for 20 minutes. Congresso will also have three live performances of groups of Pauliteiros (2 groups from Miranda do Douro and 2 groups from OUP). During the break, it will take place a coffee-break with traditional products from Miranda do Douro and differnt points of the North region.

About the author
Orfeão Universitário do Porto (OUP), a public utility institution, was founded on March 6th, 1912, almost one year after the creation of Oporto's University. The creatores were a group of enthusiastic students, conscious about the need of completing the educational role that a University must have.
During our 102 years of history, we've performed several times both in Portugal and in foreign countries all over the world.
These facts have been noticed by different municipal, national and international entities, who have awarded OUP with the highest awards and distintions. As an artistic and cultural institution, OUP is, nowadays, composed by the following groups: Classical Choir, Ethnographic Dancing and Singing gruoups (from Douro, Minho, Azores and Madeira), Fado groups (Lisboa and Coimbra style), Cante Alentejano's group, Cantares de Maçadeiras' group, Pauliteiros de Miranda, Pauliteiras de Miranda, Female Tuna (TunaF) and Masculine Tuna (Tuna Universitária do Porto)
This new project came from the need to share and get to know a kind of culture the OUP is so proud and pleased to represent, with a different artistic model from the usual: a Congress instead of a show.
