1st International Film Festival dedicated to the theme of pets, with fiction, documentary and animation films.
PET FEST is a film festival about pets and their relationship with humans, whose first edition will take place in Aveiro, in September. This festival promotes and values the interaction between human beings and animals with whom they live and shares moments of happiness, work and leisure. The festival's program will feature a selection of the best short and feature films of fiction, documentary and animation, made and produced by professionals from all over the world.
One of the novelties will be the international contest of short videos (3 to 5 minutes) produced by amateurs and starring a pet with a story, real or imagined, of companionship, adventure, overcoming that will give rise to a program within the festival and with associated prizes. The program will be complete with workshops, debates, a program for schools, tributes, exhibitions, among other activities. In all editions there will be a fundraising campaign for an institution for the protection and adoption of animals.
A Film Festival is an excellent opportunity for the public to be able to watch what is best done in cinematographic art and PET FEST will be not an exception. It will bring to Aveiro the best of fiction, documentary and animation films on the theme of pets and will be the first Festival of its kind in our country. The program will also be enriched by the curatorship carried out by other similar festivals (only three are known: Canada, the United States and Mexico) and also by animated film festivals, from Portugal and other countries.
At PET FEST the protagonists will be pets and men, women, children and young people with whom they share lives, companionship, adventures and misfortunes, search and rescue activities, guide, among many others. But also stories animated by some of the best authors of animated cinema or narratives produced by documentary filmmakers who, around the world, let us know wonderful stories of overcoming and companionship or denouncing intolerable situations with animals.
PET FEST endorses the values of UNESCO's Universal Declaration of Animal Rights.

About the author
Dias Felizes Associação Cultural, with a wide experience of more than twenty years in the organization of cultural events, is the promoter of this Festival. But Pedro Neves and Henrique Praça are its organizers, to which other people will join in the near future.
Pedro Neves has a degree in Communication. He was a sports journalist, founder of the online newspaper Deporto Aveiro and managing partner of the companies Webasket - Gestão Desportiva, Lda e Pormenores e Caprichos, Lda. He worked in areas such as Training, Human Resources, Event Organization, and Communication. He is currently a Real Estate Consultant.
Henrique Praça has a Master in Biology, a BA in Theater - Stage Management; was a Science and Mathematics Teacher; was a managing partner of Setepés - Artistic-Cultural Projects in which he was responsible for the design and production of cultural and artistic projects, participated in cultural projects with partners from all over europe, diretor and diretor assistant in theater and opera; he is currently a cultural manager.
