In a state of apathy towards old age, the character isolates themself in their own solitude. The unexpected visit of a dove changes their course, showing some light among the darkness and giving new meaning to life, even in the face of its finiteness.

Through a dreamlike and metaphorical journey, we seek to explore profound themes such as Loneliness, Death and Grief, giving it a marked social aspect. We aim to address this situation that is so common and universal, but often forgotten, in order to raise awareness and reflection on these issues in society.

The short film O Peso da Pena is a cinematographic project by the Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design, included in the final project of the Master's Degree in Cinema and Photography - Specialization in Fiction Cinema .

About the author

Led by director Gabriela Morais, this team is made up of students from ESMAD and RockSchool, combining a group of Cinema and Audiovisual professionals, all fully committed to bringing this project to life.

Gabriela Morais is a student at the Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design, having completed a degree in Audiovisual Communication Technologies. Born in Porto and passionate about Portuguese folklore, her works seek to address themes of the Portuguese home and current issues in our society.

She is now a final year student in the Masters in Cinema and Photography with her short film, bringing a delicate and sensitive vision to the screen, with a message about the many lives like that of the character that Portugal knows, isolated from society and without the will to live.
