Ana, a young psychiatrist doctor, tries to help her demented grandfather, who asks for euthanasia, to reconcile with his past in the PIDE.
We launched this campaign to raise funds to be able to produce our academic project, a pilot episode of our mini-series "O Fim".
Note of Intent
"The End" is a 5-episode mystery miniseries.
It centers on the story of Ana, a young psychiatrist, who tries to help her demented grandfather, who asks for euthanasia, to reconcile with his past in the PIDE.
It's a story about the regrets and secrets we carry with us to the end of our lives; about the consequences of the past on our present, and about how we inherit our family's problems.
We intend to explore several themes within this story:
The complex family relationship between a granddaughter and her grandfather with dementia;
The psychological consequences of a crime committed long ago;
Making us question the extent to which we can empathize with a person who has committed a crime;
And create a discussion about euthanasia. How far would we be able to kill a familiar we love if he asked us to?
We want to tell a story of complex emotions and difficult decisions. Show what it's like to live with dementia and the impact it has on families and caregivers.
But above all, to represent the love of a granddaughter for her grandfather, and the extent to which she will go to give him peace, before his end.
How far would we go to give peace to a family member at the end of their life?
What if we found out that this person had committed a horrible crime?
What would we do to redeem it?
Synopsis
A young psychiatrist is called to the home where her grandfather tried to commit suicide. The act was motivated by the new roommate, a man who recognized him for a crime committed 50 years ago in Lavre. Between delusions of dementia and periods of lucidity, José, a former soldier, asks Ana to help him end his own life. The granddaughter realizes that her grandfather has a past with several secrets related to the PIDE that haunt him to this day. Throughout the series, Ana will delve into her grandfather's past, until she discovers that he was responsible for the separation of a family, which was never reunited. Determined to give her grandfather some peace before his death, Ana decides to embark on an investigation, uncover these secrets and reunite the separated family.
