Mundane Conversations - Phase 1 (of 4)

This crowdfunding campaign is intending to make this short film. Due to it being a complex project, we will phase the campaign, this is Phase 1.

SYNOPSIS:
Miguel (suffers from Huntington's disease), lonely in an almost unfurnished apartment, receives a visit from Luís, his best friend. Confronted with a downcast friend, Luís is against the fact that Miguel smokes, questions the divorce, and tries to cheer him up. In the dialogue, they recall a bittersweet past, which introduces shocking news about the death of Miguel's mother and that can dictate Miguel’s future.

PLOT:
Miguel, admiring the city's confusion while smoking, recognizes the arrival of his friend, Luís. Walking through an almost unfurnished house. Luís, more open and at home, enters, criticizes Miguel's act of smoking, but ends up smoking with him. Looking for answers and cheering up his friend, Luís takes the full ashtray and leaves the scene for the kitchen and, without stopping talking, cleans all the butts and returns. When convincing Miguel to go on an outing, Luís inserts his sister's dog in the conversation which makes them laugh. But the smiles change to a memory of the past, which ends up with mentioning the day of Miguel's mother's death, which turned out to be a suicide. Ending the conversation with a sign of support, Luís understands that his wife, Juliana, is at the door to take him to an event, and they say goodbye in a tender hug. Once again alone, Miguel walks around the room, to the window, opens a drawer of the small but long-legged furniture, and takes out an object. While watching his friend disappear through the city, Miguel thanks and says goodbye.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This short film is an auteur cinema style and aims to be experimental, as short films should be a way of exploring new styles of telling a story, as well as exploring new capabilities of technical use, that is, sound, light, image, and narrative to improve the short film as a whole. This story intends to ricochet its narrative, thus enticing the viewer to think back to what led to Miguel's suicide, thus creating his chronology before the story is told. Everything has a meaning, every action, every conversation. The basis of this short film is dialogue.

HUNTINGTON DEASEASE:
Huntington's disease (HD) is a rare, inherited, neurodegenerative brain disease that affects 5 to 8 out of every 100,000 people in Europe.
Huntington's disease develops gradually and has no cure. However, some symptoms can be minimized through medication. The disease is characterized by a combination of motor (movement), emotional (mood) and cognitive (reasoning) changes. HD symptoms can vary in extent, severity, age of onset, and rate of progression from person to person, even among family members. Typical emotional symptoms of HD are depression, apathy, anxiety, irritability, outbursts of anger, impulsivity, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and social withdrawal. HD also causes gradual cognitive (intellectual) changes that involve understanding, reasoning, judgment, and memory. Cognitive symptoms include slow thinking, difficulties in concentrating, organizing, planning, deciding and answering questions, as well as short-term memory problems, reduced ability to assimilate and understand new information, as well as solving problems.

Budget and due dates

Phase 1 of the project has already been completed, however, it did not involve renting the space where the filming for the crowdfunding video and photo shoot took place. The short film “Conversas Mundanas” is a complex project that involves a team that works hard to achieve the objective. In this way, we will carry out a fundraising campaign in a phased way to guarantee the costs of each stage.
