A roof to learn

Helpo, with a presence in northern Mozambique since 2008, began its post-cyclone Kenneth intervention on April 29 through the rebuilding of school structures and maternal and child nutritional support.

The passage of Cyclone Kenneth through northern Mozambique on April 25, 2019 caused significant material damage, particularly in terms of school infrastructure, rendering 480 classrooms unusable. Helpo, with a presence in northern Mozambique since 2008, began its post-cyclone Kenneth intervention on April 29 through the rebuilding of school structures and maternal and child nutritional support.

Jembesse Complete Primary School in the Island District of Mozambique, Nampula Province was one of the schools affected by cyclone Kenneth with damage to classroom coverage. This school welcomes students from the age of 6, in a total of 4250 children, of which 2226 are girls.

Damage to the coverage of classrooms impedes the normal functioning of classes, so a return to normal is urgent. This proposal calls for monetary support for the 3-room roof reconstruction work at the Jembesse School. The roof of these rooms was made of zinc sheets that were completely useless, leaving the rooms unprotected from rain and wind. This proposal intends to replace the cover using a better quality material (IBR type plates) and greater durability, according to the official guidelines of the Ministry of Education of Mozambique.

The work has the cost of 3602,00 €.
