Campaign to create a digital archive of intangible heritage of the region of Viseu Dão Lafões (Portugal), which will have 5,000 sound, video and photographic documents, to be available and completely free of charge on the Internet Archive platform.

For 12 years, Binaural / Nodar has been developing a patient work of sound and video documentation of multiple aspects of the intagible heritage of Viseu Dão Lafões region (predominantly in the municipalities of São Pedro do Sul, Vouzela, Oliveira de Frades, Viseu and Castro Daire, but gradually extending to the 14 municipalities that currently constitute the Viseu Dão Lafões Intermunicipal Community).

Over the years, we have recorded and collected thousands of hours of audiovisual material (interviews with elderly people - many already deceased, collecting legends, traditional songs, agricultural activities, social events, soundscapes, etc.), which we have been gradually organizing and cataloging.

At the moment, we need an initial impetus that will allows us to have much of this material (5,000 documents) online and available for download through the Internet Archive platform (http://www.archive.org), since we believe that open access to intangible heritage is a way of knowning and sharing the memory of  territories, from where we came, which is particularly important in rural isolated areas, which are affected by depopulation (which unfortunately was one of the causes of recent dramatic fires in the municipalities of Vouzela and Oliveira de Frades, two of the municipalities where we have been doinf extensive ethnographic documentation).

The fundraising will allow you to hire a technician in digital archives so that we can pursue our plan. It is important to mention that this type of projects is not included in the financing that Binaural / Nodar currently obtains, which is related to artistic creations, so we need alternative sources of fundraising for this crucial project.
