"Travel is the traveler. What we see isn't what we see but what we are.” Fernando Pessoa, The book of disquiet
Travelling has always felt natural to me. Like a second skin. The idea of movement, of entering the unknown, the sounds, the lives and stories of strange people and spaces have always motivated me to photograph, therefore, in June, 2014, I´ve started a series of trips between Portugal and Spain to document these emotions.
These trips have originated the “Transumância” project, a physical register of the different places I have visited but, also, a profoundly emotional document on what it means to enter a completely unknown place and really want to be there and understand it. It´s a universe of loneliness, disquiet but also, profound fascination.
Three years after the beginning of the project I began feeling the need to go further in this document and really connect with the people I get to know when I travel, to enter their skin and understand what motivates them, what unsettles them, what really means to exist in that part of the world; therefore, with this campaign I intend to gather the necessary funds for the Intuitive Photography workshop (October, 2017) with one my biggest influences on photography: Anders Petersen. In this workshop I´ll learn, amongst other things, how to tell the stories of the people I met in these trips and make their emotions palpable.
