MICAR - Mostra Internacional de Cinema Anti Racista - Film Festival Against Racism is the first festival of its kind in Portugal, with a special part dedicated to football and his role in the fight against racism.
The event is placed between October 17th and the 19th, 2014 in the small auditorium of the Teatro Rivoli, Oporto, Portugal.
During the three day event, will be displayed films that focus on the theme of racism, immigration and ethnic minorities, with special emphasis on this issue for racial discrimination in football; each session will be further completed with a discussion about the topic, for which we will have some special guests.
The event is organized by SOS Racism, partnership with the FARE Network and the support of the Municipality of Oporto. Also will feature the contributions of the Observatory of Human Rights in promoting the event and organizing the debates; Stella Rossa Italian organization that works under the slogan "Another football is possible" and that will share their best practices with youth and immigrant communities; and youth of the Project "Catapulta" in the construction of various materials.
For each film will be produced an educational / informative kit to promote debate about the topic.
Parallel to the Film Festival, we intend to perform exhibitions and make debates in schools of Oporto, with the experience and work already done by our Project "Catapulta".
All movies and events have free admission.
Oporto has a tradition of high quality film festivals. We would like to participate in this movement and join the best of several publics to discuss the issue of racism in society and promote the access of citizens to cultural spaces in the city.
