In the 24-hour P endurance race, Ricardo Lento and Miles & Vibes team will run for 24 hours for a cause: raising donations for Pfuka U Famba, the GASPORTO center that feeds and cares for malnourished babies in Macia, Mozambique.

Some run for a medal. Some run for a cause.

On September 5th and 6th, in Santa Maria da Feira, the 24H de P will take place, an endurance race that challenges athletes to run for 24 consecutive hours. This year, Ricardo Lento, a trail and ultra-trail athlete and member of the Miles & Vibes team, along with the other members of the run club , will transform each kilometer into a gesture of solidarity, running to raise awareness and mobilize support for a cause that needs us: Pfuka U Famba, in Mozambique.

Pfuka U Famba, which in Changana means "get up and walk," is the Nutritional Rehabilitation Center that GASPORTO runs in the village of Macia. The center supports 30 babies aged 0 to 3 years who are malnourished and provides them with what they need to grow: powdered milk, fortified porridges and soups, hygiene, and activities that stimulate the body and mind. Support continues until each baby recovers, and we walk side-by-side with the caregivers to ensure lasting change.

And it's not just words. Since 2010, 769 babies have been rescued from malnutrition, 65 of them in 2025 alone. An external evaluation also confirmed significant improvements in the health and interaction skills of the babies, as well as in the abilities of those who care for them. It's a place where many babies stand up, walk, and fly. Some stories are better told through images. Meet Sofia and you'll understand why we never give up on any baby.

This is the center that this race aims to help keep running. Your donation, however small, means one more day that a baby eats, grows, and smiles.

"My children entered Pfuka U Famba when they were almost a month old. They weighed only 900g and 700g. At the hospital they called them 'little mice', a word that hurt my heart, because I myself was malnourished and full of fear.
At Pfuka U Famba I learned to eat better, to care for my children, and to help them grow up healthy. Today, when I look at them, strong and alive, I know I've learned to spell a new word: miracles. My children's lives are, thanks to Pfuka U Famba, a miracle."

Mother of N. and L.

You too can be a part of these miracles. Make a donation to this campaign and help Pfuka U Famba continue writing stories like that of this mother's children. And if you want to be sure your contribution reaches the center even if we don't reach our goal, choose the option of unconditional support when donating. That way, no gesture is lost along the way.

We're in this together, one baby at a time.

Mães que aprendem, cuidam e veem os filhos florescer

About the author

We are GASPORTO, and for over twenty years we've worked side by side with those who need it most. Our motto is, and has always been, We Are Together.

We were founded in 2002 with a guiding principle: more than just responding to a need, we want to create close bonds built on respect and equality. In Portugal, we bring to life volunteer and social intervention projects in the city of Porto. In Mozambique, in the village of Macia, we have a team of Mozambican and Portuguese professionals working daily on the ground, leading cooperation programs such as Pfuka U Famba, our Nutritional Rehabilitation Center.

It is in this daily and continuous work that our greatest strength lies. It is what allows us to say, with certainty, that change is possible: we have seen babies who fit in the palm of a hand become strong children, and mothers learn to believe. It is this experience, built over many years and many lives, that we put at the service of this cause.

With us, every gesture counts. And no one is ever left behind.

Budget and due dates

The €3,000 raised in this campaign will cover approximately one month of operation for the Pfuka U Famba Nutritional Rehabilitation Center in the village of Macia. This is not for a one-off activity, but rather to cover the ongoing costs that keep the center running daily. The funds will be used as follows:

  • Powdered milk, fortified baby food and soups: €1,500
  • Hygiene and other baby support items: €400
  • Transportation for caregivers and home visits: €350
  • Human Resources: €750

Scheduling of the application: Immediately after the campaign ends, the funds will be sent to Pfuka U Famba and applied directly to the center's maintenance costs, ensuring the continuity of care for the babies at the facility, which currently has the capacity to accommodate up to 30 children.
