"Exemplary Service" is an independent web series that blends dark comedy with social satire. Your support helps bring the series to life while promoting independent filmmaking in Portugal's Alentejo region.
"Exemplary Service" is an independent five-episode web series created by Alexandre Costa and Juan Garcia, produced in the municipality of Odemira in partnership with the Arco do Tempo Association.
Inspired by everyday life on Portugal's Alentejo coast and filmed along the stunning Fishermen's Trail of the Rota Vicentina, the series blends absurd comedy, dark comedy, and social satire to tell an original story about tourism, routine, and obsession.
At the heart of the story is Carlos Caminha, an employee at a small tourist information office who dedicates his life to providing flawless service to every visitor. Meticulous, solitary, and deeply attached to his routines, Carlos gradually takes the idea of exemplary service to disturbing extremes.
More than simply producing a web series, our goal is to showcase the Alentejo as a place for ambitious audiovisual storytelling, proving that high-quality productions can be created outside the country's major urban centres.
With pre-production almost complete, filming is scheduled to take place between September and November 2026, bringing together a dedicated cast and crew to bring this story to life.
The funds raised through this campaign will help cover production costs, including filming, crew catering, travel, costumes, props, post-production, and the series premiere. As a thank you, we have prepared a range of rewards for everyone who chooses to join Carlos Caminha's journey.
By supporting "Exemplary Service", you are doing more than helping fund a web series—you are supporting independent filmmaking in the Alentejo and helping new stories continue to emerge from this remarkable region.
About the author
We are Alexandre Costa and Juan Garcia, the creators of "Exemplary Service," an independent web series developed in partnership with the Arco do Tempo Association, a non-profit cultural organisation based in the municipality of Odemira with more than 18 years of experience promoting culture, the arts, and community development.
United by our passion for film, theatre, and storytelling, we joined forces to create an original series set on Portugal's Alentejo coast, celebrating its landscapes, its people, and the unique character of the region.
Alexandre is a director, screenwriter, and producer, holding a degree in Filmmaking, Cinema and Television from ETIC Algarve. He has worked on several independent productions as a director, producer, and cinematographer, receiving recognition through multiple national and international awards.
Juan is an actor, producer, and theatre creator, with a degree in Theatre and Performing Arts. His career has been closely linked to theatre, film, and cultural development projects in the municipality of Odemira.
Through "Exemplary Service," we hope to contribute to the growth of independent filmmaking in the Alentejo, creating an original story that is produced locally and deeply rooted in the region that inspires it.
More than simply producing a web series, our ambition is to help establish the Alentejo as a place where stories are created, creative talent is nurtured, and independent audiovisual productions can thrive.
Budget and due dates
Production of "Exemplary Service" is currently in the pre-production stage.
Throughout August, we will produce new promotional content for social media while finalising the remaining aspects of production, including technical planning, logistics, and crew coordination.
Filming is scheduled to take place between September and November 2026 across multiple shooting days, allowing us to accommodate the availability of both the cast and crew. Most scenes will be filmed during weekly shooting sessions, primarily in the municipality of Odemira, particularly in the parish of Longueira/Almograve.
Throughout production, we will continue to share behind-the-scenes footage, teasers, and exclusive updates, giving supporters the opportunity to follow the project's progress from start to finish.
Once filming is complete, we will move into post-production, including editing, sound design, colour grading, and preparations for the official release of the series.
Every contribution made through this campaign will go directly towards bringing "Exemplary Service" to life, helping us deliver the project with the quality and care it deserves.
