The OLI is a olive container. Inspired by the olive fruit is produced in glazed ceramic, painted black on the outside and white on the inside; is divided into two parts horizontally, which serves as the base glass to serve olives and the other piece serving for the deposit of lumps. These are inserted into the hole in the top and removed from the inside.

Passionate about olive trees and olive oil, Miguel always had the same sensation whenever he ate olives, whether at home or in a restaurant.

He could not resist them, but the act of picking up an olive, eating the flesh, extracting the pit and then leaving it exposed like that in an insipid container, forced him to have this idea: to create a piece with an appealing design, functional and that could be used both as a bowl to serve olives and as a container in which to store the pits - the olive’s remains – shrouded from view. That is how OLI came to be.

We are seeking support to produce packages and the interior lid for the piece, as we will support the remaining costs.

We need help to take Portuguese design further in the world.

We seek support in the production of packaging and a cover for the interior of the piece, so that the remaining costs will be borne by us. Price release 35.00€.

About the author

Miguel Pinto Félix is a designer since 1993. He studied graphic design in Florence and upon his return in 1994 he created his own studio. Since then he has worked in countless projects in different business areas, like wine products’ image and labelling, corporate image and product design.

Passionate about olive groves and the world of olive oil, he created in 2009 the PLATU, a ceramic piece in which to degust olive oil. This piece has already gone beyond Portugal and has been having fantastic reviews across the world. It took the Portuguese stamp to olive oil lovers. Now Miguel wants to dedicate himself to olives and launch OLI. Let’s make this project come true!

Budget and due dates

The production of a ceramic piece involves the creation of moulds and prototypes. We are now in the mould production phase and already had access to a prototype. We have already overcome the difficulty of finding a supplier for the PVC lid to put inside the piece. The price for each piece is 13€, so to produce the first 1000 complete pieces, which includes the piece itself, the interior lid and the packaging, we need about 13.000€. Therefore we need this amount to place a first order. Our request regards the expenses with the PVC lid and the packaging, which adds up to about 4750€. Our estimated costs: Technical studies – 300€; Moulds – 2000€; Production – 10000€; Distribution – 1000€; Marketing – 3000€. We are planning to have the first produced piece by the end of June, along with the first prototype for the packaging. The order will be delivered by the end of September and the piece will be available in the market in October.
