Short Film Killing Time

How fallacious can a first impression be? How much of our experience do we allow to disturb the way we see the world, and others? “Matar Tempo” is a short film that makes us reflect on these questions.

Four characters are put to the test in an experience that will test their expectations and prejudices, as well as those of the viewer.

In addition to the short

One of the main objectives of this project is to boost the creative potential of the Trás os Montes region and the village of Mondim de Basto. Directly, through exposure of the county's natural and structural scenery, as well as local talent; indirectly, through the creation of a Cycle of Short Films, "Trás-os-Filmes", to be held at Favo das Artes - Casa da Cultura, between October 7th and 8th, 2023. This event, where the behind the scenes documentary of this short film will be inserted, it can and should promote investment in the audiovisual area: encouraging others to submit their projects/ideas; contributing to the existing plan for investment and promotion of the municipality's culture, through the acquisition of cinema equipment, making it available for future short and feature film projects.

Your contribution would be very important for us to be able to show that it is possible to make cinema independently, outside the big cities and urban environments, and for the beginning of what intends to be a long-term project that focuses on valuing the interior as a destination for audiovisual and cinematographic productions.

About the author

It is in late conversations on the Lisbon subway, about ambitions and projects, that the idea of making a short film arises. Gonçalo André (fictitious name), screenwriter, translator, actor, and multifaceted human being, writes this short film and presents it to Miguel (not so fictitious name), who, after reading a primordial version of the script with his colleague and friend João (real name) is moderately interested in participating.

João, always more apprehensive, initially sees no hope in the concept, much less sympathizes with Gonçalo. Miguel is still trying to understand where he fits. It is in this climate that, together, they decide to create a project (still existing only in Whatsapp groups) called "Filmes aos Montes".

After a first excursion to Mondim de Basto, for repérage purposes, the initial trio decided to contact Duarte Henriques (also a real name), visionary director, actor, editor, and creator of projects that don't fit in anyone's head of how impressive they are. Last but not least, Leonor Zuzarte (no doubt a fictitious name), philosopher of her thoughts and producer of what is yet to come joins this production.

Budget and due dates

Carrying out a first work is always a challenge. Despite the support we've been getting to reduce some expenses, there are always expenses that are impossible to avoid, and some even to predict.

Therefore, the expenses for which we have not yet received support are as follows:

. Team and actors travel between Lisbon and Mondim de Bastos by bus — 450€

. Cast fees (despite a small production, we would like to remunerate the work of our actors and actresses) — 1000€

. Other production costs (travel for rehearsals, food for rehearsals, repérage travel, repérage food) — 300€

. Margin for unforeseen circumstances — €250
