Group of researchers from the University of Coimbra who got together to run for hereditary ataxias (APAHE) in the European Marathon in Aveiro, on April 23, 2023.

We are a group of researchers from the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra who got together to run for hereditary ataxias in the European Marathon in Aveiro on April 23, 2023. We want to raise funds to support APAHE ( Portuguese Association of Hereditary Ataxias ), a national non-profit association whose objective is to defend and protect the interests of people with hereditary ataxias in Portugal.
And what are hereditary ataxias? These are degenerative and neurological diseases characterized by loss of coordination of voluntary muscle movements, whose symptoms progressively worsen. These diseases result from genetic defects, known as genetic mutations, which are inherited by one or both parents. Parkinson's disease and Friedreich's Ataxia are two examples of diseases of this type. One of these diseases, JDM ( Machado-Joseph Disease ) is studied by neuroscientists at our centre.
We appreciate any kind of donation you can make to reach our minimum objective of €500, through the crowdfunding that we are promoting, and whose revenue will go directly to APAHE:
For the bravest ones who want to join this activity in a more active way, they can join our team. To do so, simply register at the link https://events.globalsport.pt/ , where you can choose the modality you prefer: 5Km Walk, 10Km Mini Marathon, 21Km Half Marathon or 42Km Marathon.
In the registration process, they must enter the code WAXFBV in the box that appears on the left and says “Enter a team code”. In this way, they become part of our CNC Team - Center for Neurosciences and Cellular Biology.
IMPORTANT: The cost of registering for the marathon does not revert to this fundraiser. To do so, you will have to access our fundraising link so that you can make your donation to APAHE (in whatever amount you want) and thus help us reach the minimum fundraising goal of €500.

Olá a todos!
Atingimos ontem os 500€, e no dia da nossa Maratona! Muito obrigada a todos pelo apoio e por fazerem desta campanha um sucesso :)
Claro que agora não podemos desistir de conseguir chegar a mais pessoas para angariar ainda mais fundos para a APAHE! Contamos convosco para espalharem a palavra e, se conseguirem que apenas um amigo vosso faça um donativo, são mais 54 donativos feitos. Parece fácil. Vamos lá?
Ficam duas fotografias do dia de ontem em que, entre todos os cerca de 50 membros da nossa equipa, fizemos um total de 508km:
75Km em Caminhada, 160Km na modalide de 10Km (Mini-Maratona), 147Km nos 21Km (Meia-maratona), e 126Km nos 42Km (Maratona).
