This campaign is intended to raise funds for the athlete of Karate to be able to participate in the 46th European Championship of cadets and juniors to be held in Denmark between 8 and 10 February 2019.

This request for help results from the need to raise funds so the athlete Martim Sousa can attend the "46th European Karate Championships for Cadets and Juniors" which will take place between the 8th and 10th February in Denmark.

The Portuguese Karate Federation does not subsidize the trainning expenses of the invited athletes in the National Team, being the travels (900km per training in Martim's case), accommodation, food and equipment entirely in charge of the athlete.

On the other hand, the Federation contributes only partially, about 60% of the total amount in travel, accommodation and food, when participating in the European Championships.

Therefore, the trainings and 40% of the expenses of participation in international tournaments are not subsidized, in addition to official and mandatory equipment for these competitions that are also paid by the athlete. For example, for Kata competition are mandatory:

  • 2 gi's (kimonos) of approx. € 160 each,
  • 2 competition belts of approx. € 20 each,
  • Estimated total of approx. 360 €.

To be noted that, in the three months leading up to the European Championships, Martim was called up for all training and internships of the National Team, as well as the KARATE OPEN LISBOA, with the expenses foreseen for this period with his sports activity exceeding € 1400.

It is almost impossible, for a middle-income family, to bear the burdens of the regular participation of one of its elements in defending the country's colors in this mode. The amount requested corresponds to the minimum contribution so that these expenses do not seriously affect the financial stability of Martim's family.
