Jazz in Mirandese is an original, distinctive project. Applying the identifying sounds of the Mirandese language to the jazz idiom, results in a bold, emotionally rewarding blend. A legacy that is very familiar to me.
"I don't remember forgetting"
What follows is the brief history of this original work.
I have come to ask for your help, at a time when the pandemic has sunk our activity.
I was born in Bragança and spent most of my childhood and adolescence at home with my grandparents in a village in the plateau of Miranda: Campo de Víboras.
I have been living in Porto for a few years now, but I often go to these places to which I am emotionally attached. On one of these trips, more than a year ago, I came up with the idea of combining the Mirandese language with Jazz. I did some research on authors who wrote in this language and found Amadeu Ferreira, an illustrious figure in the world of literature, poet, scholar and disseminator of the Mirandese language and culture.
João Paulo Rosado - contrabaixo
One of the purposes of this CD and also one of its most valuable assets, is the defense of a language that is threatened in its survival by the desertification of the region where it is spoken, despite being our second official language.
Associating Mirandese with jazz seemed to me at first an incompatible task, but it is being stimulating and even provocative, which, in a way, strengthens my will.
Working with a language that has a natural, rustic roughness and putting it together with themes with a jazzy dressing and sometimes delicate melodic lines, is emotionally rewarding.
To improve my knowledge of this language, I attend an online course promoted by the "Associaçon de la Lhéngua i Cultura Mirandesa", which is fundamental to the defense and preservation of this language and an invaluable help in my project.
Jazz in Mirandese is an original and distinct project.
Applying the identifying sounds of the Mirandese language to the jazz language, results in a daring mixture, with an extraordinarily surprising musical result, two languages merging in this universal language.
However, I do not intend to use traditional root instruments common in the musical expression of these lands, but to remain "faithful" to the classical trio that normally play with me : piano, bass and drums.

Marco Figueiredo - piano, composition and arrangements
João Paulo Rosado - double bass
Filipe Monteiro - Drums
I feel a duty in this discographic work: the transmission of a legacy that is very familiar to me, through jazz to which I have dedicated myself for some years.
These are good reasons to join the campaign!
We are counting on you!
