Edition of the book "There are Cities Under Water - Marine Prairies"
Hippo is a seahorse that lives on the Portuguese coast, more precisely in the Sado estuary! His curiosity led him to travel through the most beautiful and important marine ecosystems in the world.
The collection "There are Cities Under Water" consists of five children's books, through which kids and adults can accompany Hippo on his travels, discovering the inhabitants of the incredible cities that exist under water. These adventures will not leave anyone indifferent to the impacts that human beings have in these places, as well as to the behaviors that we must adopt to conserve these ecosystems and prevent them from disappearing forever!
In this campaign, we are preparing to launch our first book "There are Cities Under Water - Marine Prairies", where Hippo will explore the Marine Prairies of the Sado estuary. These seagrass meadows are very important, as they produce oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, filter pollutants from seawater, provide shelter and serve as a nursery for many marine species. In addition, they host a population of seahorses and another of very special bottlenose dolphins.
With this first book, we want to draw the attention of the youngest to the richness of this estuary and the importance of marine prairies, making known not only this fantastic ecosystem, but also the threats to which it is subject and what we can do to protect it!

About the author
The project "exists cities under water" is one of the most recent education projects for marine conservation and ocean literacy to emerge in Portugal. It was created by four biologists and experienced environmental educators, who have dedicated their lives to conservation of the ocean through education and awareness.
For us, and for Hippo, education is a fundamental part of nature conservation, since we will only preserve something if we know it and if it has any meaning for us. Marine ecosystems are dispersed across the globe and, unfortunately, so are our impacts. For this reason, the project we created aims for Hippo to have an international reach, so the edition of the books will be done not only in Portugal, but also in Brazil.
The appreciation of the work done by environmental educators and the importance of their work in environmental conservation, especially in the marine environment, is another reason why Hippo jumped into the books, creating a new tool for marine education and conservation.
Thus, Hippo and the project intend to be important characters in environmental education and ocean literacy, not only in the youngest Portuguese population, but also promoting the education and conservation of marine ecosystems in different locations around the world. We want more and more the themes related to these ecosystems to be part of everyday life for all of us!

Budget and due dates
The five books in the collection are already ready, the publisher selected and Hippo is ready to edit them, but for that he needs your help. This campaign is intended to cover the costs of editing the first book "There are Cities Under Water - Marine Prairies", and for that Hippo needs to raise 1200 euros:
- Edition of the book (about 1100 €)
- PPL commission (about 100 €)
If the campaign is successful, the project expects to have the books available to the public in early 2021!
Any contribution, regardless of value, will have its name present on our website, in a space dedicated to all who contributed.
If the stipulated amount is exceeded, this extra aid will revert to the development of new educational activities, as well as to the edition of the remaining books in the collection. So be sure to participate !!
