The initial idea was to take Mr. Manel to Cannes but we had to reform our objectives
Hail, Scoundrels
“Ugly, Pigs and Bad” is a documentary that follows the scoundrel who walks casually through life, ignoring the traditions and etiquettes that maintain the appearance of our society and its national values. Ugly, pompously displaying their decadent appearance in the city's straight, clean streets. Pigs, which accumulate layers of dirt and grime under their nails, in hands calloused from an arduous job, proudly revealing signs of a lot of work with little return. Bad, who do not accept the place that society offers them, who question, confront established ideas — which imply that they are weird or eccentric. This scoundrel destined for unhappiness and marginality.
“C'Est la Canaille, et bien j'en suis”
Well, it's me.
This is our three gem scoundrels.
Bezelga , who has lived in a squat since he was 18 years old. People say he would even be handsome if it weren't for those lines (tattoos) on his nose. His fame in Matosinhos is only surpassed by the famous dog Marina, who accompanies him everywhere.
Mr. Manelis a proud troll, he claims to have mastered several arts, such as painting and graffiti, and it was he who built the wall at the place where he was interviewed.
Leninha, at the moment, is doing her PhD in medieval history, but she has more stories than Joan of Arc. A single mother, she is proud of her free spirit.
About the author
Our Brief History:
We are a group of friends, João Seabra, Rodrigo Mota Freitas and Matias Magalhães, who decided to transform their disappointment with academic challenges into an opportunity to create something unique and impactful. After completing our studies in Audiovisual Communication Technology, we realized the lack of significant practices and teachings in our academic career. Determined to make a difference, we united our passions, skills and desires to bring "Ugly, Pigs and Bad Doc" to life.
Who we are:
DIRECTOR | PRODUCER | EDITOR
João Seabra, 29 years old, born in Porto, Portugal. From an early age, he realized his passion for fiction and documentaries, but it was only at the age of 15 that he understood that this unattainable world was achievable, at Escola Artística Soares dos Reis. At this school he specialized in video, starting to work in the area of wedding reporting at the age of 19 with the main focus on drone piloting. In parallel, he developed a videographic portfolio in the areas of contemporary dance, “bboying”, mural painting and animation. He began his training in Audiovisual Communication Technologies at ESMAE (Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo) and completed at ESMAD (Escola Superior de Media Arte and design).
Currently, in São Paulo, he works as an Assistant Director for commercials for major brands and collaborates with renowned artists on the Brazilian music scene, including Anitta.
DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Rodrigo Mota Freitas, 22 years old, born in Porto, Portugal. Graduated in Audiovisual Communication Technology from the Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design of the Instituto Politécnico do Porto. Starting his journey in the field of music around the age of 11, photography from the age of 14 and videography from the age of 16. During his academic career, he held roles as Director of Photography in more than one academic project and worked in various areas of audiovisual, from promotional videos, event coverage to real estate work.
SOUND DIRECTOR
Matias Magalhães, 28 years old, born in Amarante, Portugal. Graduated in Audiovisual Communication Technology from the Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design of the Instituto Politécnico do Porto.
Throughout his career, he has always been interested in different areas of multimedia arts, from music and sound, to photography and cinema.
In this sense, the path he took towards his degree was truly experimental, having the opportunity to work with music and album editing, interning at a music producer, holding a workshop in
digital photography and working on photography and videography for various queer night events and, at the same time, music video projects in the rap area.
Help us Complete "Uglies, Pigs and Bad Doc." Rightfully!
The challenge:
We are proud to say that we were able to bring "Uglies, Pigs and Bad Doc" to life. with passion, skill and determination. However, to ensure our work is recognized and shared legally, we face significant expenses related to various procedures and fees.
Critical Expenses:
Film Festivals: For our documentary to reach a wider audience and be recognized by the industry, it is vital to submit it to film festivals. Each registration involves fees that vary, but are essential to give visibility to our work.
Registration of the Cinematographic Work: Ensuring that our documentary is officially recognized requires the appropriate registration of the cinematographic work. This involves administrative procedures and, of course, associated costs.
Synchronization (up to 2 years in Portugal): To ensure that all music, sound effects and sound elements comply with regulations, it is necessary to carry out synchronization procedures, an essential step that also involves costs.
Distribution of previously classified Videogram: To distribute the documentary on different platforms and formats, it is necessary to follow specific procedures and, of course, this does not come without costs.
Classification and Distribution of Cinematic Work: Proper classifications are vital to ensuring that our documentary reaches the right audience. However, this is another step that requires funding to be carried out properly.
