Zezinho has cerebral palsy and needs to undergo surgery in Barcelona. This will bring benefits in terms of posture and freedom of movement. With it, we will be able to delay scoliosis and give you a better quality of life.
With this campaign we intend to raise the amount needed to perform a surgery in Barcelona.
Zézinho, currently 10 years old, is a boy with cerebral palsy, "acquired" at birth due to problems related to childbirth assistance. Since then, his struggle has been constant, in the beginning for his own survival and now for a better quality of life, which he has achieved with many therapies and a "love bubble" from his family and friends!
But therapies alone have not been enough and this surgery is a practical and effective answer to help resolve issues of body positioning, freedom of movement and also fight scoliosis and avoid spinal surgery as much as possible.
It is a very simple surgical procedure, contrary to the name, Myotenofasciotomy, practically not invasive and with results proven by the countless cases already treated with this method. They are small "blows" in a layer that covers the muscles, called the fascia, and in a few days the results are visible. With the help of therapy these results are prolonged over time. Can you imagine the joy of a mother who, after surgery, is able to change her child's diaper much more easily, as the legs achieve an opening angle that has hitherto been impossible? Or a child who until now could not walk properly because his legs cross each other and then can go practically running to the family?
As a surgery is not recognized by the NHS, it does not have any type of reimbursement (and no, nothing similar to this surgery is performed in Portugal). Hence, all expenses are borne by the self, from the surgery itself, to travel, accommodation and food.
The cost of the surgery (4500€) is unbearable for our family budget, considering that the mother has not worked since he was born. She is his full-time caregiver.
We appeal to those who can be supportive of our child. This surgery is really important for him... and it has been a life of many struggles, at times they almost lead to exhaustion, but giving up is not an option!
