Mural of "TOMAZ ALCAIDE"

Orfeão de Estremoz Tomaz Alcaide and artist Davide Alves propose the creation of an urban art mural to commemorate the 121st anniversary of the birth of Tomaz Alcaide and the 92nd anniversary of the Orfeão de Estremoz.

The Orfeão de Estremoz "Tomaz Alcaide" in partnership with the artist Davide Alves, propose the creation of a mural with the objective of commemorating the 121 years of the birth of "Tomaz Alcaide" and simultaneously the 92 years of the Orfeão de Estremoz that in 1936 adopted , in his honor, the name of the acclaimed tenor from Estremocense.
The institution and the artist intend to present the people of Estremoz with a different form of culture, which will be the first public piece of urban art commissioned in the municipality of Estremoz, honoring and celebrating the figure and work he left to the city, as well as the institution that perpetuates its legacy.

The project has already been approved by the Municipality of Estremoz, however it now lacks funds to add to the participation of the Municipality itself, since it is not possible to meet the total needs of the costs inherent in carrying out the work.

With the objective of avoiding the cancellation of the project, and in order not to deprive citizens and tourists of yet another cultural experience in the city of Estremoz, as unfortunately happened in recent times that have haunted us, we ask for the collaboration of all who want and/or can help so that we can have something that raises our morale by carrying out this project.

Only with everyone's help will it be possible for this institution so cherished by all the people of Estremoc to be able, in this different way, to celebrate its existence and the life of one of the most emblematic figures in the city. Orfeão de Estremoz has always been innovative, its history proves it. Now it will continue to be, risking a different format to what the public is used to , with an innovative option suited to the current times in which so many other forms of culture have unfortunately been unable to be carried out due to social restrictions . For the same reason, your contribution will also give the possibility to both the artist who created the project and his technical team to make this piece at a time that we can consider returning to a future that we want to be more normal and giving a growing impetus to the culture that, fortunately, seems to be wanting to show signs of vivacity after so long that so many others in the area of culture have been faced with the vast majority of their activity cancelled.

In response to your generosity, official acknowledgments will be published by the organization and a public record will be created next to the piece, of all the individual or collective people who have contributed to the realization of the project. For all those who contribute individually/particularly with a minimum contribution of 5 €, symbolic gifts will be given on the theme of the project. To know:

- Contribution of €5 - offer of a postcard with an image alluding to the project;

- Contribution of €15 - offer of a mug with images alluding to the project;

- Contribution with €25 - offer of a t-shirt with an image alluding to the project;

- There will be a Limited Edition of 10 paintings, which will be numbered, with the image of the project in the amount of €40;

- You can purchase the complete pack of postcard, mug and t-shirt contributing €40;

- For companies and commercial spaces that contribute a higher amount, the complete pack will be delivered and advertising spaces will be allocated both at the place of execution of the project during its duration and in the dissemination of the same a posteriori in different formats ( photography, video, etc.) and on various platforms (press, social networks, etc.);

The organization will keep a record of all donations and the respective contacts of all those who contribute, if authorized by themselves, with the sole and exclusive purpose of being contacted in order to be present and receive their "gifts" at the ceremony to be held in opening day of the mural.

About the author

The Orfeão de Estremoz "Tomaz Alcaide" was created to promote art, culture and philanthropy with the aim of not distinguishing ideas, creeds, politics and social classes.

To have an Orfeão born in the city of Estremoz proved to be the desire of many people in the society of Estremoz. In 1927 and 1928 the local newspapers already referred to it as an aspiration, mainly of the conductor of the band of the Sociedade Filarmónica Artística Estremocense, better known and recognized as Banda Municipal or “União”.

In 1930, with the arrival of Artur Augusto Assunção to the presidency of the Sociedade Filarmónica Artística Estremocense, everything changed. His ability to work, dedication and motivation made him propose to fulfill the dream that until then he would have always been committed… to create an Orfeão. He then joined Maestro José António de Lima, who immediately expressed his full availability to collaborate as conductor of the Orfeão de Estremoz.

On March 16 of that same year, at a meeting organized for this purpose, everything was made official with the obvious consent of all the members of the Sociedade Filarmónica Artística Estremocense present. At the same meeting, Artur Augusto Assunção presented the first Direction of Orfeão de Estremoz that was approved by the members and was composed of Messrs. Joaquim Andrade Pimenta, Joaquim António Chouriço and Prudêncio Pimentão Ruivo.

Orfeão de Estremoz was created with the aim of promoting art, culture and philanthropy. Everyone at Orfeão was welcome as long as they helped and made an effort to also develop the neighborhood spirit of the people of Estremoc.

Orfeão always lived for the good of others and, in addition to the philanthropic acts it promoted, it also intended to educate… to educate for music, values and collective discipline.

He became one of the greatest and best spokespersons ever for the neighborhood of Estremoz. It became, for many years, the only artistic and cultural organization of its kind that developed its activity throughout the south of the territory, honoring the land, the province and even the country itself.

The Orfeão de Estremoz "Tomaz Alcaide" celebrates its 92nd birthday this year, its patron would be 121 and the institution intends to mark these dates with the creation of this Mural in honor of this son of Estremoz who was just the greatest Portuguese lyrical singer ever.

Budget and due dates

The objective of this campaign is to reach the value of €3500 to support the production costs of the Mural.

Once the amount is reached, this fundraiser will be closed. Production costs will be divided by the following items:

• Acquisition of material;
• Logistics Costs;
• Artist's Caché and technical team;
• Creation of digital content to promote the project;
• Project promotion;
• Physical realization of the project.
