Our kittens are at risk of losing the only home they’ve ever known. Without renovating the windows frames, we won’t be able to legalize the shelter and may be forced to close. Help us keep them safe and preserve the space, giving them more comfort.
At the StreetDogs shelter (an animal protection association in the municipality of Barcelos), we have kittens who depend on a safe and comfortable space to live while they wait for a family. However, our shelter faces a serious challenge: the windows we have are very old and do not allow for air renewal, which is essential to maintain a healthy environment and for the shelter to be legalized, a process that is currently underway. Without adequate air renewal, we do not have the conditions required by law to obtain legalization, running the risk of having to close the shelter and having nowhere else to put the kittens.
The current single-glazed windows make the space unbearably hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. Furthermore, as the windows are fixed, we cannot open them to ventilate the shelter, which prevents air circulation, which is essential for the well-being of our animals and the volunteers who work there every day. We tried other, more economical solutions, such as cutting the windows or installing an exhaust system, but these options proved unviable.
With your help, we want to change to new frames, with louvered windows at the top, which will allow for constant air renewal. This will allow air to circulate within the space, creating a healthier and more stable environment, ideal for the comfort of our pets and for complying with legal regulations.
Help us give them a dignified space where they can wait for a permanent family, with the necessary conditions. With your contribution, we will be opening a window of hope for these animals and offering them a shelter where they can truly feel at home.
