Six volunteers will go this summer for the island of Soga in Guinea-Bissau and they need your help! The volunteers belong to Associação S.O.G.A and have been developing projects to support the island during this year. The campaign aims to finance part of the expenses involved in this humanitarian mission

The SOGA association was born in March 2015 from a small group of believing volunteers to give the people of Soga a decent standard of living. The main fields of intervention are: Education, Health and Sustainability (food, environmental sustainability and economic autonomy). The island welcomes our volunteers once or twice a year, and these, in cooperation with the population, assess the needs and find the best and most feasible solutions. These volunteers, every year, try to gather conditions to travel to the island in order to solve identified problems, as well as to develop the projects mentioned below:

Kindergarten - The building is almost completed. We have a kindergarten teacher trained through one of our scholarships and who has already delineated the educational project. The Kindergarten will be inaugurated in 2018.
Container - We sent this year a container with donations from Portugal as school material, nursing material, clothing, agricultural utensils, household utensils, furniture for kindergarten, among others. Still inside the container, we will carry an emergency medical boat and a community water filter.
Cashew Peeling Cooperative "Out of the Shell". It was possible to purchase a cashew shelling machine as well as training in the production / shelling and cashew selling areas of the 11 cooperators already working on it.
Vocational training - After the solution of the greatest deficiencies in health and education, the area of sustainability becomes more focused, through the professional training of the inhabitants of the island in areas such as agriculture, fishing, sanitation, construction, among others.
Sanitation - Basic sanitation is almost non existent on Soga Island. Our collaborators in the island of Soga were formed in the construction of latrines, being that already they constructed 5 by the several villages.
Water - There is no drinking water on the island. An adequate solution is under study and will go beyond the possibility of disinfecting existing wells by rainwater filtration systems. An intermediate step is the acquisition of large and excellent quality filters (it will split one into the container).
For all this to be possible, support is needed to help volunteers meet the costs of the mission. Thus, with this campaign, we intend to be able to finance part of the trips of the volunteers in August
