Support for the Portuguese Underwater Photography Team

Portugal will be represented in the 15th CMAS World Championship of Underwater Photografy to be held in May in the Netherlands. The preparation of the National Team, includes recognition of the dive spots. For that need financial support to pay part of these costs.

Portugal has a national team of underwater photography.

This team is made up of elite athletes who are selected by the Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities (FPAS), to represent the country in international competitions.

Portugal will be represented in the World Championship (to be held from 2 in 2 years) to be held in the Netherlands in May this year (between 21 and 25 May 2015).

It is part of the preparation for underwater photography competitions, do reconnaissance dives, identify species and behaviors, identify sites in order to devise the best images that enable success in the competition. To do this, WE must travel to the Netherlands in advance. When moving to the Netherlands, the selection will make training dives as part of the preparation that have been doing since last year.

Associated with this shift are the costs of travel, accommodation, food, training dives. The team, through this project, is looking for support and funding so that we can prepare while national team.

About the author

The National Team is divided in 2 teams;

Team Rui and Sonia Bernardo

Rui and Sonia spend honeymoon in Sao Tome and Principe, there, they did some try dives. It was in 2005, never ceased to dive.

Rui Bernardo (photographer) and Sonia Bernardo (model), Portuguese Champions (2013 and 2014).

After 18 competitions between 2009 and 2014, reaching first place in the national ranking of underwater photography, with eight 1st places, highlighting two national championships.

Both graduated in civil engineering, divide the time available between the sea, the profession and family life.

In 2014, are selected by the Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities to represent Portugal in the 1st European Championship in Azores. And in 2015, are again selected to represent Portugal, this time in the World Championship

Team Nuno Gonçalves and Jorge Bernardino

Nuno Gonçalves early fell in love with the underwater world. Pharmacy profession and passion photographer, only in 2001 began as a diver and has since traveled to all corners of the world in search of the most beautiful images. He began his career in underwater photography competitions in 2004 with a compact, having performed since then a natural progression. Today is an integral member of the National Underwater Photography Team.

As a model Jorge Bernardino, Armed Police in Computer specialty, started diving in 2007 in East Timor, has evolved to Dive Master, plunging the world 4 corners where addicted and in love with this sport. Acquired passion for underwater photography in 2009 and carried over to underwater videography in 2010 making the machine its true buddy. It became the model Nuno Gonçalves just over two years an official event, becoming with him a member of the National Team.

Budget and due dates

The term of the crowdfunding campaign is 30 days. The preparation for this competition began in September 2014. The budget is presented to the preparation of two teams (2 + 2 models photographers) during the last two months, which includes the final stage of the competition.
