A mobile application, with the main objective to trigger a list of contacts, as well as the police about any physical, psychological or moral aggression against women/lgbtqia+ who are victims of femicide.
With the onset of the pandemic, Terremoto Produções was forced to expand its range of projects, due to the limited funding available in Portugal for the audiovisual sector. Then came the idea of developing an application to combat one of the scourges aggravated in our country by the pandemic situation: that of domestic violence. In addition, the managing partner of the production company was a victim of this scourge in the past, so the project became personal and very important.
You`re not Alone, this is a mobile application, which has as main objective to activate a list of contacts, as well as the police about any physical, psychological or moral aggression, preventing women from being victims of femicide by curbing the act -tried. Also, it will provide a service of help or collective responsibility, where each woman will be allowed a feeling of acceptance with each other, and of protection. Finally, a safety net will be broadly developed outside the scope of the application, with awareness-raising work in schools and the training of identifying and welcoming agents for battered women at all levels of Portuguese society. This business is relevant due to the high number of cases of violence against women, and also because it is a public utility service to advance towards a sustainable and organized society.
The application should be discreet and disguised inside the women's mobile phone, it is important to create an icon, which at first glance does not identify the application, thus leaving the woman protected from her partner. After installing this application, she will choose 5 mobile phone numbers of friends and/or relatives, which will be pre-defined, and the Police phone, or number created exclusively for this application. These numbers will be saved and will be activated by the victim in case of attempted violence, and/or in the act itself, avoiding possible tragedies.
According to various statistical indicators, violence against women has been growing every year. In Portugal, the number of victims of domestic violence is already almost half of the homicides in 2019, according to Carolina Branco.
The statistical figures from the APAV (Portuguese Association for Victim Support), the number of victims of domestic violence in Portugal is growing. Between 2013 and 2017, 31,317 women were assaulted in Portugal, equivalent to 85.73% of all domestic violence, against 13.79% of assaults on men. This alarming problem in Portugal makes this project relevant and justified. Also, according to scientific research by Santana (2013), which highlights the importance of political agents to solve an issue as old and as recent as its visibility as a social problem.
