50 years of the 25th of April celebrated in Monte Formoso, Coimbra, with the construction of a mural highlighting the values of Freedom and Democracy.
In a year in which 50 years of April 25th are celebrated, several activities are planned across the country to mark this date. The Neighborhood of Monte Formoso, in Coimbra, through its Residents' Association, did not want to be left out of the celebration of this very important and significant moment in our community life and organized a series of events that contribute to strengthening the values of April in the present and in the future, based on Freedom, Democracy, Solidarity and social rights.
Within the scope of these celebrations, in the neighborhood of Monte Formoso, two relevant initiatives stand out: the construction of a Memorial shelter and the creation of a tile panel commemorating the 25th of April 1974.
- This Memorial consists of a SMTUC bus stop, with specific and differentiated characteristics, remembering the episode of April 12, 1975, in which the population diverted a bus to demand the right to public transport. It will also serve as a shelter for SMTUC users. This project, in partnership with the Municipality of Coimbra and other entities, aims to connect the struggle of the past with present needs.
- The installation of a tile panel to commemorate the “50 Years of the 25th of April”, a work of art that highlights and celebrates, in the public space, the values of April. This panel will have dimensions of 1.5mx3m | 1.5mx2.25, will be built in 15cmX15cm tiles and will have a total cost including VAT of €1600, as detailed in the images and technical information of the project. The panel is inspired and authorized by an image from the 25th of April Association.
To carry out the panel we have the support of the Union of the Parish Council of Eiras and São Paulo Frades, which contributes half of the cost, and the Monte Formoso Residents Association itself. A further €551 is still needed to reach the entire budgeted amount.
For this reason, we think there is nothing better than “embodying” the values of April through a collection of funds with the participation of members, residents and the population in general.
Therefore, exceptionally, we resort to crowdfunding as a form of popular mobilization and we call on the participation of everyone who identifies with the values of the 25th of April to achieve this objective.
