Livros Escolares para Crianças Nepalesas

This campaign pretends to fundraise school books for children living in the rural Nepal. The new academic year is starting in April and with your help we could buy the books for the entire 6th and 7th grade of Maya Universe Academy!

In a undeveloped country with great inequalities, such as Nepal, quality education is very expensive and inaccessible to the vast majority of families. The organization Maya Universe Academy was born to provide free and quality education to children living in rural areas, as well as improving their quality of life, as their families and the community.

In this school, in addition to the national education program, they try to take a different approach in education, encouraging social responsibility and creative-mindedness while educating and inspiring the students and their families to achieve greater independence and transform their lives.

At the beginning of the project it was planned to enroll 10 students and start a small community school, in a small tent, when 200 families showed up for admissions, things evolved quickly.

This inspiring organization, which grew with the belief that all children should have equal educational opportunities, allows parents to pay for their children's education in time rather than money. For example with 2 hours per week dedicated to the community garden. In this way, even the poorest families can provide quality education to their children, contributing to reducing inequalities in the current Nepalese education system.

Maya Universe Academy operates with the help of local and international volunteers, and that’s how any of us can contribute to this project. And this is where I come in…

In March I will go to the Maya Universe Academy as a volunteer, and as I know that they keep struggling with money I told the project managerthat I would like to do a fundraising through my network and then I asked him "What are your biggest needs at the moment? "And he said, "How much do you think you can raise?" And I said, "Well ... I never did a fundraising, I don’t have much experience, but I would be happy if I contributed with 1000 €" and then he replied "Perfect! With that amount we were able to buy the books for all the older students of the 6th and 7th grades! "

And so I created this campaign! So I can involve the people around me in this project and together we can collect the necessary funds to acquire the books for the next year of these children!

About the author

I'm Mariana, I'm 24 years old, born and raised in Azeitão, a small village in the south of Lisbon, Portugal.

I am interested in the development of the Society and the protection of Nature, trying to spread a message of Sustainability around me.

I studied Human Resources Management and I have worked in this field in the last 3 years in large companies. However I have felt the need to explore other types of organizations, outside my culture and comfort zone, because I believe that I can contribute more to the development of society outside our "First World problems”.

Also one of my great passions is Photography, that I do as a freelancer, and the idea of ​​being able to help the development of a community through a photographic project is a life goal.

Since I was studying at university I have been thinking of integrating an international volunteer project in a way to develop these values and wishes, and that is when I met the Maya Universe Academy project in Nepal dedicated to the development of those rural communities.

Now, here I am, committed to the school that I will arrive with the necessary funds to buy the books for the new school year of these children.

Budget and due dates

I have commited with Maya Universe Academy to get at least 1000€, I've pushed it a bit farest to the 1250€, to count with the discounts I will have with contributions to this platform + to the payment partners (7% + IVA --> 107.63€), and the costs of exchanging currency and sending rewards.

My deadline is April because its when the new academic year starts and the children need the book by that time.
