Lutra | Education in Nature for all

Lutra is a project dedicated 100% to outdoor education and its biggest dream is for it to reach everyone! To promote more contact with nature, I need your help so that Lutra can make children, families and schools happy.

Lutra is a project that promotes outdoor education. The dream of the founder, Vera Malhão, has always been to reach as many children, institutions and families as possible in order to achieve a transformation of education in Portugal. To make it possible for Lutra to reach more institutions, offer more training and hold workshops in nature for everyone interested, we need your help! They will be like the most special sponsors of all, because they will ensure that hundreds of children and educators can enjoy days of smiles and discoveries in nature, whether in the school playground, in the forest or on the beach.

This fundraising will have the following purposes:

• Offer workshops in nature to schools and institutions in need
• Offer online training to educators and teachers from public schools and needy institutions
• Write, produce and edit a nature activities book for families and schools.
• Offer scholarships to our Lutra learning community at Quinta da Corema

What is Lutra?

Conceived with the aim of being a green school, the path ended up designing Lutra as a way of turning schools and families into small green schools.

Lutra offers a set of services to schools, communities, associations, municipalities and families, and always has the same objective - spending more time outside, on the street and/or in nature. It is encouraged by education for sustainability, building a better, fairer and more equitable world, where the relationship with nature and science are the guidelines for the construction of knowledge.

Founder | Vera Malhão

I'm a biologist at heart, passionate about the sea and nature, being outside is my way of transforming the world. Understanding our planet through science is my way of relating the outdoors, science and sustainability. Over the years I have specialized in science teaching, outdoor teaching and sustainability, and pedagogy to help the school community (re)connect with the outdoors in a fun and motivating way.

I lived in the Azores and it was in Lisbon that I deepened my knowledge in Environmental Sciences. This desire arose out of concern about the state of health of our planet, out of wanting to know what is being done, in favor of environmental sustainability and the well-being of all living beings. I taught at Escola Superior de Educação Maria Ulrich and over the course of ten years I combined biology, environmental sustainability, science teaching and, my new and current dedication, outdoor teaching.

Budget and due dates

This value refers to a period of 6 to 12 months, starting at the conclusion of this fundraising.

The distribution of funds will be carried out as follows:

Workshops for public schools and institutions in need | €6,000 (equivalent to 80 workshops in the West and Greater Lisbon, including the South bank; )

Online training for educators and teachers | €2,000 (equivalent to 30 8-hour training grants)

EBook (ebook) | €2000 for the entire process of creating a book full of inspiration from nature

Scholarships for Lutra Learning Community in Quinta da Corema | 5,000 (equivalent to 4 scholarships for 2 days a week for 6 months)
