About the author
The Cultural Association Moinho da Juventude (ACMJ) was born from the conversations of Cape Verdeans living in Cova da Moura, around the fountain, where the residents, especially women, were going to fetch water. At this time, in the Decade 80, the domestic workers ' struggled for better working and living conditions, which passed through the installation of home water and sewage network to 900 residents, as well as the idea of opening a library.
The activities of ACMJ are developed at the social, cultural and economic level, in which children, young people and adults are involved, who, every day, at the social level, require improvement of the housing, cleanliness and hygiene conditions of the neighbourhood and the legalisation of Migrant residents.
In the health area, it maintains circles of debate and supports preventive actions, while in the cultural domain, it fights for the preservation and dissemination of the culture of origin of the residents with activities involving cultural groups, such as the "Kolá S. Jon" and "Grupo de Batuque Finka Pé ". The formation of the residents has also passed through literacy.
At this time, the association supports more than 500 children, young people and adults. They participate daily in the activities and projects implemented by the association in the areas of sports, digital skills and African-inspired dance groups. ACMJ also aims to help all people with integration difficulties, providing services ranging from accompanying parents in education and caring to their children to the activities of leisure time for children and young people.
