The Theater & Politics Laboratory invites "Kantata do Tecto Incerto" to come to Porto. It will be a free entry show so that it can reach everyone who sees themselves in the fight for the right to housing and the city!

The Kantata do Tecto Incerto comes to Porto

November 27 at 4pm

Helena Sá e Costa Theater, Porto

Casa da Achada - Centro Mário Dionísio presents the Kantata do Tecto Incerto, a polyphonic piece about housing, "a spoken and sung choir that raises voices against the rampant attack on the right to housing". Collective creation made of concrete lives, with words loose in different accents, is the result of a work that began with meetings and conversations around the words “house” and “habitation.” The play's libretto and musical explorations feed on the concerns, reflections and proposals of these elderly people, different social environments, cultures and life paths. “To respond to the disfigurement of our cities – gentrification, real estate speculation, touristification – but also to the disrespect for this right that emanates from a basic human need”, they describe. of elements of all ages and crafts residing in Lisbon and surroundings: “people who fight, scream, whisper, resist, who mess up their words to try to put their ideas in their mouths” and destinies in their hands”.

Show "Kantata of the Uncertain Ceiling"

In Porto as in Lisbon, the vortex of speculators and easy profit hunters is stealing town from town. And in the great house of the world there is less and less room for pariahs, vagrants, migrants, nomads, itinerants, refugees. What kind of world is this in which human beings are not enough to see their basic right to inhabit recognized? Kantata do Tecto Incerto comes to Porto to encourage thought-action in the field of housing…

The Helena Sá e Costa Theater generously welcomed the project. To be able to pay travel expenses and bring this show to Porto, the Theater & Politics Laboratory invited associations, collectives and artists to join this crowdfunding. The show will be free entry so that it can reach everyone who sees themselves in this fight. For that, we need your help! Any contribution is welcome, in cash or by spreading the word to the four winds.

About the author

The Theater & Politics Laboratory was formally born in 2021, but has its origins in projects developed by the Tartaruga Falante association for over a decade. The Laboratory works as a space for collective creation and experimentation, based on the methodologies of Theater of the Oppressed, dialectical theater, clown army, agit-prop, performance, among others. Moments of debate and reports of crossroads between art and political intervention are also promoted. The group, made up of around 25 members, has been working on emerging political and social issues, such as LGBT+ discrimination, the right to housing or informal care.
