This is the second campaign I've created to help Julieta to get some new paws! Julieta is a very special dog. She was adopted in 2017 in the Sourepatas association, with 2 years old. Together we form a pair of Animal Assisted Interventions, certified by the Animas association. In 2018 Julieta was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia is a degenerative joint disease that affects walking and causes a lot of pain. For some time it was controlled with medication and Julieta had a normal life, but then she began to have more frequent crises and was no longer able to do animal-assisted therapy, which she loves so much. After much research, we chose the solution that seemed to be the best, most definitive and that could give Julieta a normal life, without pain. That solution is the total hip replacement. But it is not a very affordable solution. We used this platform to raise money for the first surgery and fortunately we were able to gather around 2000€ here. Julieta was operated on VetOeiras by Dr.Luís Chambel and has a new, fully functional and operational right paw. The first surgery was a huge success and the speed of recovery as well as the obvious results in improving quality of life were surprising.

Now it is necessary to operate the left paw, which still causes pain and discomfort. That's why we are here again, with  humility and gratitude to ask for the help of everyone who wants to give Julieta another new paw, which will allow her to run, jump and continue to help the special children who come across her. Once again, we chose to use a crowdfunding platform so that the process is as honest and transparent as possible.

About the author

I'm Sara, I'm 30 years old and I have a huge passion for animals, which was born with me. Part of my life is dedicated to the animal cause, and in 2019 I was one of the founders of an animal protection association, the Pêlo na Venta association. I have 5 dogs and 3 cats, all adopted and am a regular temporary foster family of animals. I am an occupational therapist and I do interventions assisted by animals, that is, with the help of dogs, I support people with special needs. I have 2 dogs certified by the Animas association, Julieta and Romeu.

Budget and due dates

The money raised is intended to cover the expenses of a surgery to place a total hip prosthesis. The estimated amount of €3500 covers expenses with exams performed before surgery, surgery, hospitalization after surgery, medication and follow-up. The surgery will take place at the VetOeiras clinic. We expect the surgery to be performed early next year, as soon as we have the funds to go forward.
